This article is about the Crystal Shard item. For the game, seeKirby 64: The Crystal Shards. For other types of crystals, seeCrystal.

ACrystal Shard is one of the 74 scattered pieces of a powerful crystal, originally located onRipple Star, inKirby 64: The Crystal Shards.Ribbon was tasked with safeguarding the crystal fromDark Matter, but after she was ambushed, it split into shards that rained down on various planets. In its weakened and divided state, Ripple Star is vulnerable to attack by Dark Matter. As the game's name implies, the plot ofKirby 64: The Crystal Shards is to collect and reclaim the broken pieces of the crystal in order to restore peace to Ripple Star.

Collecting the Shards[edit]

The group convenes over the partially rebuilt crystal in theNeo Star realm

In each regular stage, of which there are three or four per planet, three Crystal Shards are hidden. These fragments are often placed in strategic positions that require overcoming platforming challenges or experimenting withPower Combos to reach. While the boss of each planet reveals one Crystal Shard upon defeat, many of the mini-bosses inKirby 64: The Crystal Shards yield a Crystal Shard in the same manner. If Kirby revisits a stage where he has already collected a Crystal Shard, a large bluestar will take its place, which is worth 10 regular stars (one-third of a1-Up).

The number of Crystal Shards Kirby possesses by the time he reaches the boss of the Ripple Star,Miracle Matter, determines whether or not he will be able to face the final boss,, and rid the entire realm of Dark Matter. To face 0², all 74 shards (including the oneRibbon managed to keep and the oneKirby found after she landed on his head) must be found across the realm. This will restore the crystal to its original form and reawaken its ability to banish Dark Matter, allowing Ribbon towield it to defeat 0².

Guide[edit]

The following is a full guide on how to reach each Crystal Shard. Crystal Shards earned from stage bosses are required. The first two of the 74 shards are found at the start and are therefore not listed.
