Crash

| ||||||||||||||||||||||
- This article is about the limited-useCopy Ability. For the similarly-functioning item from Kirby's Block Ball, seeCrash (item).
Crash is aCopy Ability primarily obtained by absorbing a warhead enemy,Bomber. It allowsKirby to perform a single gigantic explosion attack, which wipes the screen clear of most enemies and greatly injures bosses. InKirby's Return to Dream Land andKirby: Triple Deluxe, the ability is obtained primarily from a floating round bomb creature,Searches.
Characteristics[edit]
Crash is a limited use Copy Ability, so it can only be used to attack one time before it is lost. In early games, Crash only had one move, Crash Fireball, that deals massive damage to all enemies on screen. Starting fromKirby's Return to Dream Land, Crash gained an additional move, called Supernova, which is a charged stronger version of Crash Fireball, with the same properties but higher damage.
While Crash's signature skill is very powerful, its lack of other attack options leaves Kirby vulnerable if he does not wish to use it immediately, making it risky to carry the ability over long stretches.
The long range of the attack can be used to reach distant or obstructed enemies andswitches that most attacks struggle to hit. In particular, in certain games prior toKirby's Return to Dream Land, Crash can be used to lightfuses, making this property particularly useful. Its glowing hat (inKirby's Return to Dream Land onwards) and explosion are able to partially or completely illuminate dimly lit rooms.
Appearance[edit]
Unlike most Copy Abilities present inKirby Super Star, Crash did not obtain a hat there. The first time it received a hat was inKirby: Right Back at Ya!, one that resembles a samurai hat and is largely black with sharp white accents and a crown-like golden piece on top (that resemble a lightning bolt). Its front has a eight-pointed white star with a green round gem on its center. Kirby also turns salmon when with the ability. This design, however, was exclusive to the anime, asKirby's Return to Dream Land introduced a completely new hat, that would be used in all media released after. Said new hat is a silver crown with an orange oval-shaped gem on its front. It features a glass dome with a white explosion or reaction inside, and features an orange star on top of it. Connecting the star and the gem are also four pink stripes (in the front, back, and sides of the hat) with a silver stroke.

Kirby's Adventure /Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

Crash first appears inKirby's Adventure. It reappears and functions identically inits remake. It can be acquired from the regular enemy Bomber, themid-bossPoppy Bros. Sr., or the bomb painting occasionally drawn byPaint Roller. InKirby's Adventure, the explosion splits Kirby into copies, who rocket around the screen during the attack before rejoining, though inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, it is modified to be based onKirby Super Star, except with a white explosion effect and increased opacity. Using Crash instantly defeats all enemies and most Mid-Bosses on-screen, but only does some damage to bosses. In this game, Kirby's animation while preparing a Crash is slightly different when facing left or right. Crash deals 29 damage, making it the single most damaging attack in the game.[1] However, all ofMike's attacks combined deal 30 inKirby's Adventure, or 42 inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.[2]
Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Crash reappears inKirby Super Star andits remake, functioning similarly to its appearance inKirby's Adventure, though gaining a new animation, and lacking its ability to lightfuses. In the latter game, its animation is tweaked further, with a white explosion effect, what is presumably ground rising into the air, and no transparency. Unlike most abilities in the game, however, Kirby does not gain a hat. It can be copied by swallowing Bomber, or by usingCopy onScarfy (orMister Anglep inKirby Super Star Ultra). Crash has nohelper, and cannot be obtained via aCopy Essence orCopy Essence Deluxe.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]
Crash appears inKirby & The Amazing Mirror, unchanged from its appearance inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. It is once again provided by Bomber.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]
In this game, Crash is distinguished by a black ring which orbits Kirby upon gaining the ability. It is used by tapping the touch screen and functions similarly to its appearance in the main games. Its cinematic in this game is reminiscent of itsKirby's Adventure design, with copies of Kirby appearing to fly around. It is once again provided by Bomber.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
Crash reappears inKirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake,Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. It features a new hat design: a crown with a glass dome which contains an orb of energy inside. It also gains the ability to make the explosion even more powerful by charging it up beforehand. It can be done when the player holds down the B (or 1) button while mashing the +Control Pad (or shaking the Wii Remote). Additionally, it can also destroyStar Blocks, and its hat and explosion are able to illuminate dark rooms. The explosion is also now less opaque, somewhat similarly to itsKirby Super Star design. For the first time, Bomber is absent, and Crash can be obtained fromSearches orMetal General's destruction missile.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe andKirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

The ability functions largely identically in the two 3DS games as inKirby's Return to Dream Land, having no major changes between installments other than the removal of motion controls. InKirby: Triple Deluxe, the ability is primarily obtained from inhaling and swallowingSearches, while inKirby: Planet Robobot, it is instead obtained fromBomber.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
Crash reappears inKirby Star Allies, and has aFriend Ability performed by using the ability withfriends out:Crash Rush. Additionally, the charge time for the powered-up version of the move is increased, likely to accommodate for Crash Rush. Once again, it can be copied from Bomber.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land /Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World[edit]

Crash returns inKirby and the Forgotten Land and itsNintendo Switch 2 Edition, affecting enemies in a large area around Kirby. Like in past titles, if the attack button is held long enough before attacking, Kirby can also use the Supernova attack, which now has additional range as well as higher damage. The ability can be evolved intoTime Crash after finding the blueprint inInvasion at the House of Horrors, which slows time to a crawl for a short period, during which Kirby does damage to enemies by colliding with them, which extends the slow-down effect. It is obtained from Bomber.
Kirby Air Riders[edit]
While Crash does not appear as a Copy Ability inKirby Air Riders, it appears as theSpecial move of yellow and green Kirby. Kirby launches himself forward from his machine and detonates a short distance away, not unlike theBomb ability orRocky's Special. The explosion may occur earlier if Kirby hits a wall. The explosion damages any foes in contact, but the user is immune to it. No hat is provided when activating the special move.

| “ | It is a Kirby mode we have never seen before! This is Crash Kirby! | ” | — Meta Knight, inFossil Fools - Part II |
Crash Kirby makes three appearances in the anime seriesKirby: Right Back at Ya!, appearing in the episodesFossil Fools - Part II,Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II, andCappy Town Down. It retains its essential function in the video games, giving Kirby a single-use explosive attack that destroys all of his enemies in one fell swoop. In Fossil Fools - Part II, Kirby uses this ability to destroyDoctor Moro and hisChimera Dinosaurs. In Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II, Kirby uses the ability to destroy aDestroya. This is done again in Cappy Town Down, though it is done too late to saveCappy Town.
The anime series was the first to give Crash Kirby a hat, and it has a distinctive look from the current design used in the video games. The hat resembles a samurai helmet and is largely black with sharp white accents and a crown-like golden piece on top. Additionally, during the transformation sequence, Kirby is showered in a series of light rings which resemble the traditional symbol of an atom, alluding to the nuclear nature of this ability.
