This article is about the Copy Ability called "Copy" inKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra. For Copy Abilities in general, seeCopy Ability.

Copy is a limited-useCopy Ability obtained by swallowingTac, which appears exclusively inKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra. It allowsKirby to scan an enemy in order to obtain their powers, which can work even on enemies that cannot be inhaled normally. Common enemies scanned are slightly damaged, but the move also works onmid-bosses, dealing them moderate damage instead. When used on enemies that don't provide any Copy Abilities, the move damages them, but it does not work on invulnerable enemies such asGordo orShotzo. Using the move on a Tac damages it as if it was an enemy that doesn't provide any Copy Ability, instead of copying some ability out of it.

Kirby can also obtain the Copy ability throughCopy Essences Deluxe. With the Copy ability equipped, Kirby can createTac as ahelper. Kirby's visual appearance does not change but rather than inhaling foes, Kirby puts on goggles to scan their powers.

Uses[edit]

Since Kirby can normally simplyinhale foes to copy them, the Copy ability is usually redundant. It has a handful of advantages, however, over inhaling:

  • Some enemies, such asScarfy, cannot be inhaled but can be copied.Mid-bosses can be copied this way before they are defeated.
    • The exception to this in the original SNES version isChef Kawasaki, who will only scan forCook if he is defeated. Otherwise, Kirby will randomly obtainCutter,Sword,Wing, orBeam. This is likely due to Cook being unable to damage him. This does not apply inKirby Super Star Ultra, as Chef Kawasaki grants Cook during battle no matter what.
  • InMilky Way Wishes, Kirby cannot copy enemies by inhaling them, but he can with the Copy ability. This eliminates the main hardship in Milky Way Wishes, which is why itsCopy Essence Deluxe is located ina hidden place.
  • When used on aBoss or on a normal enemy that doesn't provide Copy Abilities (including Tac), the scan deals damage.

Trivia[edit]

  • The effect of the Copy ability's scan may have inspired the Scan Specs used by theRobobot Armor, which uses similar visuals to highlight an enemy to copy. TheHalberd Mode also uses a similar cursor for Capture Inhale.
