Cook is aCopy Ability which debuted inKirby Super Star and later returned inKirby & The Amazing Mirror,Kirby Super Star Ultra, andKirby Star Allies. It allowsKirby to force all enemies and projectiles present on screen into a large golden cauldron and cook them to producefood to replenish thestrength of himself and his friends. Cook is a single-use ability, typically provided by absorbing the defeatedmid-bossChef Kawasaki, and it will automatically defeat any regular enemy on screen when it is used. InKirby Star Allies, the ability can also be used (harmlessly) on Kirby's allies, and will produce a specific food item based on what "ingredients" go in.

When Kirby gains the Cook ability, he is given a white chef's hat (with a small star on the side inKirby Star Allies) until he finishes using the ability. Cook Kirby is misnamed asChef Kirby in theKirby: Triple Deluxekeychain and theKirby's Dream BuffetCharacter Treat. The actual "Chef"Kirby refers to his role in theKirby Café merchandise, which is not the same as the Copy Ability.

Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Kirby using Cook to draw in some enemies inKirby Super Star Ultra

Cook was introduced inKirby Super Star, and naturally reappears in its remake,Kirby Super Star Ultra, where it is obtained fromChef Kawasaki. When the ability is activated, all other gameplay stops and an animated scene begins with Kirby conjuring a large gold colored pot. The pot pulls inside all enemies and their projectiles that are on-screen, then Kirby seasons and stirs the ingredients in the pot as the brazier underneath is lit. After a moment, Kirby will raise his arms to signal that the meal is complete, and a number offood items equal to the number of enemies that went in will pop out. After using the Cook ability once, Kirby returns to his regular state.

Kirby cannot produce ahelper using this Copy Ability.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

Kirby using Cook inKirby & The Amazing Mirror

InKirby & The Amazing Mirror, Cook is largely the same as inKirby Super Star, but is now obtained fromCookin andPrank (if it has a frying pan in its arsenal), being the first regular enemies in the series which provide the ability. Which food items come out of the cauldron now depend on the type of each potted enemy, as follows:

Regular enemies (1 life bar)

  • Cherry
  • Hamburger
  • Nikuman
  • Omurice
  • Onigiri
  • Pudding

Large enemies (3 life bars)

  • Meat on bone

Mid-bosses (all life bars)

InKirby: Triple Deluxe, Cook Kirby appears as a collectiblekeychain, using a sprite fromKirby Super Star Ultra. However, it is misnamedChef Kirby.

Cook Kirby's humming of the "Kirby Dance" tune
Cook Kirby usingSupper Party, a move that has him shooting his friends out of the cooking pot as projectiles, inKirby Star Allies

Cook returns as an ability inKirby Star Allies. It is still a single-use ability forKirby, but now he can charge his cook attack into a powerful move hitting everything on-screen called Souper Supper. One notable addition to Cook in this game is that while Kirby is cooking, he hums to himself, humming one of two different short tunes based on his charge level; the shorter charge is the "Green Greens" theme, while the longer charge is the "Kirby Dance" melody. Kirby's humming is a bit off-key, fitting his tone-deaf singing established in flavor text for theMike ability and other sources.

Main article:Chef Kawasaki#Kirby Star Allies

Unlike inKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby can call Chef Kawasaki as an ally from the Cook ability. Unlike Kirby, Chef Kawasaki has unlimited use of the Cook Pot and Souper Supper attacks, though they do come with a cooldown. In addition, Kawasaki has other attacks such as using plates and his soup ladle as weapons.

Souper Supper
Hold B
In addition to cooking common enemies and defeated mid-bosses like Cook Pot, Kirby launches a huge stream of hot soup from his pot. This is a full-screen attack which can deal massive damage to even bosses (except forVoid Termina's Final Core,Morpho Knight,Void Soul andVoid). Just like Cook Pot, Kirby's Cook ability disappears when Souper Supper is used. While the soup does fiery damage (e.g. can burn grass), it cannot share theSizzle element to allies. Chef Kawasaki's version is less powerful, only doing 40% of thedamage.Damage is based on the distance (close/far) and the number of friends put into the pot:
  • 190/120 (0 friends)
  • 210/140 (1 friend)

  • 230/160 (3 friends)
  • Launchedfriends deal 16 damage.

Damage is not affected by the multiplayer modifier.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

Cook does not appear as an ability inKirby's Dream Buffet. However, "Chef" Kirby appears as aCharacter Treat, depicting his artwork fromKirby Super Star.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Cook Kirby isKirby'sFinal Smash inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, where nearby characters get sucked up into a pot and are cooked. After he is done, the fighters sucked in and some health restoring food are released, with the fighters being shot out after taking heavy damage. This Final Smash is not particularly good for scoring KOs, but it is a good way for Kirby to recover health while damaging his opponents at the same time. It is also possible for Kirby to produce other items from the pot besides recovery food, such asSuperspicy Curry or bombs.

Kirby's Final Smash has since been replaced byUltra Sword starting withSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.

In addition, Cook Kirby is represented by asticker. When equipped, it adds +140 flinch resistance to any fighter.

That little Star Warrior...has a smoking topspin back hand!
— Meta Knight regarding Cook Kirby's skill

InKirby: Right Back at Ya!, CookKirby makes a fairly large number of appearances, with the ability typically being obtained when Kirby inhalesChef Kawasaki's frying pan. Unlike in the games, Cook is a more fleshed-out and permanent power in the show, as Kirby gains the ability to conjure food from nothing, battle with his frying pan, make said pan grow giant to catch largemonsters, and even deflect fire beams using it. Despite these additions, the ability's finishing blow still typically involves Kirby cooking his opponent into a delectable dish which, if not enjoyed by the other characters, is left as a snack for Kirby himself to gulp down.

Despite the ability's power, Cook Kirby is not always successful against his foes. The first example of Cook failing comes from the episodeA Spice Odyssey, where Cook Kirby is unable to overpower the chef monsterMonsieur Goan and eventually loses the ability. The second failure is againstHeavy Lobster inCombat Kirby, as this robotic being cannot be cooked despite its resemblance to a culinary delicacy.
