Colosseum
| ||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||
- This article is about the location inKirby and the Forgotten Land. For other colosseums throughout the series, seeColosseum (disambiguation).
| “ | Whoa! I can hear the crowd cheering from all the way out here! | ” | — Elfilin, in reference to theColosseum |
TheColosseum is a place inWaddle Dee Town that appears inKirby and the Forgotten Land and itsNintendo Switch 2 Edition. The amphitheater is northwest of the center plaza, and its construction is completed onceKirby finishesWondaria Remains. Kirby can compete in thisBoss EnduranceSub-Game by talking to theCommentator Waddle Dee out front, and it is similar toThe Arena from past installments. There are a total of four different cups Kirby can compete in, which are unlocked after completing different requirements throughout the game. As each cup is unlocked, the exterior design of the amphitheater changes slightly. Kirby is not required to enter the Colosseum after signing up, and he can exit the Colosseum via the pause menu at any time after entering. Coming out victorious in the first three cups is required for100% completion.
Kirby starts each cup and can rest in-between battles in the Colosseum'sWaiting Room, serving as the rest area like in otherboss endurance modes. It contains a limited supply offood and at least oneCopy Essence (with the type of food and number of Copy Essences varying based on the cup), as well as a banner indicating who will be fought in the next battle and how many battles are left in the cup. Asecond player can also play alongside Kirby asBandana Waddle Dee at any point. The order in which most of the bosses and mid-bosses are fought in is random, though each cup has at least one boss always fought at the same point.
Gameplay[edit]

The Colosseum has different difficulties in which Kirby can choose from: the Meta Knight Cup is the easiest and is unlocked alongside the Colosseum, The Ultimate Cup is unlocked after completingLab Discovera, and The Ultimate Cup Z is unlocked after completing theIsolated Isles of Forgo Dreams. Exclusive to the game'sNintendo Switch 2 Edition is The Ultimate Cup Z EX, which features a mix of opponents from both Forgo Dreams andStar-Crossed World, unlocked after clearing the Star-Crossed World story. In addition to obtainingRare Stones andStar Coins upon completion of a given cup (includingStarry Coins in The Ultimate Cup Z EX specifically), an exclusive item is obtained after completing each cup for the first time: clearing the Meta Knight Cup rewards theMeta Knight Sword blueprint, while the others reward a rarefigure each. If Kirby doesn't take the prize money and quits the game, the next time the player starts the save file, Elfilin will notify Kirby that he can still take them from Commentator Waddle Dee.
When Kirby enters the Colosseum, hishealth is automatically fully restored. Kirby can take in anyCopy Ability andStock Item he chooses, andamiibo can be used for their extra bonuses. Co-op is also available, with the second player playing asBandana Waddle Dee. In-between battles, they can use a limited supply ofFood Items for healing if needed, and can also pick up bags ofStar Coins orStarry Coins from chests near the end of the cup. Before the final round, an additional Food Item can be found inside the last chest. Best times are kept for each cup, which also keep track of the difficulty (Spring Breeze Mode: green; Wild Mode: red) and when amiibo, items, and/or co-op are used.
New to this boss endurance mode is that when Kirby loses in the Colosseum, he can spendStar Coins to continue and restart from the last battle, but the timer resumes from the time he was defeated. The price starts at 100 Star Coins and then doubles for each subsequent defeat, up to a maximum of 2000 Star Coins. In The Ultimate Cup Z EX,Starry Coins are used instead and feature a different method of increasing the price for every defeat.
Colosseum cups[edit]

The Colosseum has four cups, which represent different difficulties. The player health remains constant in each cup; however, it varies depending on the game's difficulty. In addition, the game's difficulty has no influence on bosses such as their health and their attack patterns. A preview image for the first three cups will show the specific bosses that are set to be fought during specific rounds each time an individual cup is entered, while The Ultimate Cup Z EX's preview image instead shows the crystal mid-bosses, Forgo Leon, Morpho Knight and Genwel Meteonelfilis.
The following lists information on the boss battles, how many healing items are given, and other factors in each cup:

List of bosses[edit]
The following lists everyboss andmid-boss in the Colosseum, with information on theirhealth and the difficulty levels in which they appear. Like in previous titles, the bosses usually have less health when fought in the Colosseum, this time with only about 70% or 60% of their max health. The Colosseum is the only area whereMeta Knight,Phantom Meta Knight, andChaos Elfilis can be fought; the former in Meta Knight Cup and The Ultimate Cup, and the latter two in The Ultimate Cup Z and The Ultimate Cup Z EX.

Trivia[edit]
- There are twoPresent Codes found near the Colosseum.
- "BRAWLINGCOLOSSEUM" can be found written over the top of Commentator Waddle Dee's tent on the exterior wall of the Colosseum.
- "THANKYOUMETAKNIGHT" can be found written next to Meta Knight's watch tower on the exterior wall of the Colosseum afterLab Discovera is cleared.
- The Waddle Dee watching the tournament bracket next to Commentator Waddle Dee's booth is random and may change color every time Waddle Dee Town is reloaded.
- The randomCopy Essences in the waiting room only pickCopy Abilities that are available and currently set inWaddle Dee's Weapons Shop.
- Sleep is unavailable from the Copy Essences during The Ultimate Cup Z and The Ultimate Cup Z EX, possibly to prevent infinitehealth recovery from Sleep and infinite stat boosts fromDeep Sleep.
- In speedruns, players may obtainCrash from the Copy Essences versus specific bosses. To maximize the chance of getting Crash in the waiting room, speedrunners need a dedicated save file which has the lowest possible number of abilities obtained. BesidesCutter,Fire andSword whose blueprints (Chakram Cutter,Volcano Fire andMeta Knight Sword respectively) are guaranteed to be obtained in gameplay to unlock the Colosseum, speedrunners only need to obtain Crash andToy Hammer for that save file. The chance of getting Crash from a Copy Essence in this case will be 20%.
- Unlike similar situations in past arenas,Elfilin is still captured in the capsule during theLeongar battle in The Ultimate Cup.
- AfterForgo Leon is defeated in The Ultimate Cup Z or The Ultimate Cup Z EX, Leon won't appear in the background during the followingMorpho Knight battle unlike theForgo Land version.
- The Tomato Food Item is exclusive to the Colosseum in this game, and doesn't appear in the regular stages, referencing its common role as a healing item inBoss Endurance modes.
