— ChuChu in theKirby's Dream Land 3 Instructional Booklet

ChuChu (also spelled asChuchu) is one ofKirby'sAnimal Friends, and a frequently reoccurring character in theKirby series, though most of her appearances are only as cameos. ChuChu is a pink octopus-like creature,[1] most closely resembling aJapanese flapjack octopus, who wears a red bow on her head. Unlike most other Animal Friends, who can carry Kirby or Gooey around in some manner, ChuChu rides on the head of her partner. Kirby appears to have a content or lovestruck expression when ChuChu is on his head, and several of their interactions imply that they may have a romantic interest in each other. ChuChu also shows a feisty side, particularly around the other animal friends and Gooey.

Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]

ChuChu debuts inKirby's Dream Land 3 as one of Kirby's sixAnimal Friends, first appearing in the second stage ofGrass Land. When paired with Kirby, ChuChu is able to use her sticky, extendable "tentacles" to grab enemies in front of her and put them into Kirby's mouth, as well as sticking to and moving along ceilings. Furthermore, if the player presses the B button while the two are falling, she can perform a weak aerial jump, making it possible to slow down their fall if the button is pressed repeatedly. Despite resembling a octopus, ChuChu has no increased swimming skills when underwater.

Combinations[edit]

Like with the other Animal Friends, ChuChu can help Kirby perform unique team-up moves when using variousCopy Abilities. These are outlined as follows:

Base AbilityAppearanceDescription
BurningKirby produces a small constant heat source which causes ChuChu to distend like a hot air balloon when angled up, allowing the two to gain some lift. Kirby can use the fire cone itself to attack enemies.
CleanKirby and ChuChu equip a large broomstick and are able to fly freely through the air for a moment, leaving a trail of magic dust behind that damages opponents.
CutterKirby swings ChuChu around himself like an axe blade, defeating enemies around him. He cannot throw ChuChu, however.
IceKirby spits out snowballs which ChuChu grabs and tosses at enemies at various arcs. The snowballs freeze enemies on contact.
NeedleChuChu shoots out five needles around herself which travel a short distance and hurt enemies on contact.
ParasolKirby and ChuChu get inside an up-side-down parasol and spin forward, defeating enemies on contact.
SparkChuChu shoots a laser from her tentacle which flies straight forward and can defeat enemies, similar to theLaser ability. Unlike said ability, however, the laser will rebound off of flat walls if charged.
StoneKirby transforms into a boulder and ChuChu proceeds to start swinging him around. The two can travel back and forth while doing this maneuver, damaging enemies on contact.
