Challenge Mode

Challenge Mode is a bonus mode inKirby and the Rainbow Curse which features a set of 48 mini-stages forKirby to complete. The menu for this mode is available from the start of the game, but each stage needs to be unlocked individually, with different criteria for each one. Like withStory Mode, these challenges can be tackled with Kirby alone, or with up to threeWaddle Dee helpers controlled by additional players.
Due to the differing unlock criteria for each Challenge Mode stage, these stages are not intended to be played in the order they are numbered (nor is it actually possible to do so). Completing every stage in Challenge Mode is required to unlock theDrawciaFigurine and hence,100% completion ofKirby and the Rainbow Curse.
Basic gameplay[edit]
The goal of Challenge Mode is to collectTreasure Chests inside rooms with predetermined sets of obstacles and conditions within a 15 second time limit for each room. These rooms are similar to the timed challenge rooms encountered in the main stages of the game. Controls for Kirby and the Waddle Dees are the same as they are in Story Mode. When progressing between rooms, Kirby and the Waddle Dees are fully healed and thePoint Star count is reset to 0. It should be noted that the chests collected in these stages do not actually contain any items, nor does collecting them contribute to the "collect # treasure chests" unlock criteria in the table below.
Challenge Mode is divided into 48 distinct stages. Of these, 41 areOne-Minute Challenges and the remaining 7 areSurvival Challenges. Each type of challenge can be summarized as follows:
One-Minute Challenges[edit]
One-Minute Challenges are sets of four rooms played in sequence. If Kirby fails to collect the treasure chest in a room, he will automatically be taken to the next one. The medal received for these stages is based on how many chests were collected, as follows:
- 0 - No medal
- 1 or 2 - Bronze medal
- 3 - Silver medal
- 4 - Gold medal
Survival Challenges[edit]
Survival Challenges are sets of twelve rooms played in sequence. If Kirby fails to collect a treasure chest in time, he is defeated and has to start the whole challenge over again. The medal received for these stages is based on how many chests were collected, as follows:
- 0-5 - No medal
- 6-8 - Bronze medal
- 9-11 - Silver medal
- 12 - Gold medal
