This article is about theCopy Ability. For Bubbles in other contexts, seeBubble (disambiguation).

Bubble is aCopy Ability that debuted inKirby: Squeak Squad. WhenKirby gains this ability, he obtains a blue hat similar to a shower cap, topped with many bubbles spewing out of it. He also gains a bubble wand, which is used for launching bubbles. Using this ability, Kirby is able to shoot a stream of bubbles at his opponents, which transforms them into bubbles containingCopy Essences upon defeat. The stream can also be used to break awayblocks and other obstacles, even being able to shoot through walls.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]

Kirby attacks aWaddle Doo using the Bubble ability.

Bubble debuts inKirby: Squeak Squad. It allowsKirby to transform regular enemies into bubbles so that he can pick up their Copy Abilities and use them later. For example, if Kirby uses the bubble ability onSir Kibble, the bubble for theCutter ability appears after Sir Kibble is defeated. If Kirby uses the bubble ability on an enemy that does not give a Copy Ability, such asWaddle Dee, a smallstar appears instead.

If the ability is used on aGold Waddle Dee, the bubble will contain both a star and achest, despite them not normally combining.

Kirby: Squeak Squad manual[edit]

  • "Bubble Kirby's got the power to turn enemies into soap bubbles."

Trivia[edit]

The original drawing of Shaabon and the conceptualized Bubble ability that it would provide
  • The developers ofKirby: Squeak Squad had difficulty designing a hat for the Bubble ability, due to foam and bubbles not having fixed shapes. They ultimately decided to base it on a children's shower cap, but they were worried if it was being sold at the time the game was being developed, so they went window shopping to see if they still existed.[1]
  • Interestingly, the sprite for the Bubble ability's hat inKirby: Squeak Squad seems to have slight design differences from that of the one featured in artwork. The sprite features a crown on Kirby's head encasing the shower cap, despite the hat not having any sort of crown-like design elsewhere. This makes it look more similar to various elemental abilities such asFire orIce. The shower cap part of the hat also looks different design-wise, as it curves further upward and isn't as wavy.
  • The winner of theKirby of the Stars: Guest Character Contest forKirby: Right Back at Ya! was a monster namedShaabon (designed by Tsubasa Osada of Kyoto prefecture), who has the ability to blow bubbles to attack. Notably, the original concept art for the monster also features a concept for a Bubble Copy Ability that could be obtained from it. While this ability would not make it intoScare Tactics - Part II, the episode where the monster was properly realized, it bears a slight resemblance to the actual Bubble ability.

  1. "With the Bubble ability, it was difficult to know what form Kirby should take when using it. Foam and bubbles obviously have no fixed shape and that caused all sorts of trouble for us. So we made Kirby wear a kind of ring-shaped shower cap [used by children in Japan when they wash their hair to keep the soap out of their eyes, Ed.]. Then someone would argue: "But Kirby doesn't have any hair!" And someone else would respond: "Yes, but think about the soap! If it gets in his eyes, it's going to hurt!" (laughter) This kind of shower cap is something that's completely normal to people of our generation, but we were concerned it wasn't really used by people nowadays. We ended up checking shop windows to see if they still existed..." –Masanobu Yamada (Interview with theKirby Mouse Attack Development Team (archive))
