Test your broad jump skills in theBonus Game at the end of each stage. It's a very simple game--you just aim for the item you want, then make Kirby jump toward it.

The Bonus Game[1] is theGoal Game played at the end of every regular stage inKirby 64: The Crystal Shards, whereKirby can select different prizes as rewards for completing the level. The game takes the form of a picnic held by the main members of Kirby'sCrystal Shard-hunting team. All of Kirby's sidekicks are present, each eating a different food:Adeleine is eating a sandwich,King Dedede is munching on a chicken wing, andWaddle Dee is chowing down on a simple rice ball. Interestingly, while all of the other characters are eating food that contains a significant amount of nutritional substance, the only legitimate food provided for Kirby at the picnic is, for the most part, dessert-like options such as cake and ice cream, as possibly seen in the preceding stage as well. Kirby can use these desserts-like foods to regain his health.

When Kirby reaches the Bonus Game, he must jump from the edge of the picnic blanket to the certain item in question in order to obtain it. However, it is quite easy to misjudge or overshoot the item - in the case that Kirby does not land on any item, he begins to humorously cry, and the scene fades to black.

Rewards[edit]

While his partners eat the same thing regardless of stage or picnic location, the selection of items available for obtainment on Kirby's part consistently changes.

Stars[edit]

Main article:Point Star

There are three different types ofPoint Stars provided at the picnic, all of which Kirby can obtain, if desired: the standard Yellow Star (with a value of one Star), the Green Star (with a value of 3 standard Stars), and the Red Star (with a value of 5 standard Stars). Stars inKirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and in other titles across the series, are collected towards achieving a1-Up, or an extra life - in this game, 30 Stars will grant Kirby a 1-Up. Unlike other items presented at the picnic, these three Star variations are consistently obtainable at all bonus games. In addition, the Bonus Game is the only place inKirby 64: The Crystal Shards where green and red stars can be obtained.

Food[edit]

Main article:Food

Like in the regular stages ofKirby 64: The Crystal Shards, food is an obvious choice when it comes down to picnicking as a source of sustenance. While the food selection ranges from dessert-like cakes and ice cream to meat and sandwiches, regardless of the type of nourishment, all food restores one of Kirby'shealth points.

TheMaxim Tomato, however, is a bit different, as it completely restores Kirby's health. This item is also a permanent picnic option, and is often a popular choice, as it is quite rare elsewhere in the game.

1-Up[edit]

Main article:1-Up

This item provides Kirby with an extra life, making it a higher-priority target than the point stars. The 1-Up is also one of the permanent residents of the picnic, and is one of the more popular choices due to its value.

Enemy Info Card[edit]

Main article:Enemy Info Card

The Enemy Info Card is often the most sought-after item of the lot for collectors, especially since it cannot be obtained in any other way. Although these cards do not have any plot significance or practical benefit, they operate as a function of their collectible value; nearly every enemy (and boss) has a respective identification card that can be obtained and collected. These cards provide names for most of the enemies and bosses encountered in the game which cannot be encountered by simply playing, making them useful for players seeking knowledge about theKirby series in general.

There is a chance that Kirby gets an enemy card he already has in his collection, in which case he will adopt a disappointed expression and a different jingle will play. When every Enemy Info Card has been collected, they will stop appearing at the Bonus Game, leaving the picnic with one reward less.
