This article is about the Big Waddle Dees from various sprite-based Kirby games starting withKirby & The Amazing Mirror. For the large Waddle Dee-like creature in Kirby: Triple Deluxe & Kirby: Planet Robobot, seeGrandy. This should also not be confused with theColossal Waddle Dee fromTeam Kirby Clash Deluxe. For information about Waddle Dees in a general context, seeWaddle Dee.

Big Waddle Dee is anextra largeWaddle Dee. How much larger it is depends on the game it appears in, but it is at least large enough to be noticeable when compared to its average Waddle Dee counterparts. Apart from the size, there are typically no visual distinctions between this Waddle Dee and the normal ones. However, its increased size usually means that it has morehealth and/or it takes longer forKirby toInhale. It may also become aBlaster Bullet on its own when spat out. Despite its size, Big Waddle Dee is usually no more a threat to Kirby than the normal ones.

Kirby's Epic Yarn /Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]

A Big Waddle Dee resting inKirby's Epic Yarn

InKirby's Epic Yarn andKirby's Extra Epic Yarn, while not explicitly referenced inPatch Plaza, a Big Waddle Dee appears at the end of theCastle Dedede stage. In this stage, it is guarding the throne room, presumably under orders fromYin-Yarn to do so. Big Waddle Dee cannot be unraveled using theYarn Whip, but it can be defeated using theWeight or by tossing ayarn ball at it.

Yin-Yarn himself can conjure Big Waddle Dees during his boss fight. They will fall down from above and hurt Kirby orPrince Fluff should they land on them. Once these Big Waddle Dees land, they fall off the stage.

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

Big Waddle Dees make an occasional appearance inKirby Mass Attack, appearing inDedede Resort along with their smaller cousins. Like other Waddle Dees in this game, Big Waddle Dees attack by throwingbombs, though theirs are naturally larger and more dangerous. Defeating a Big Waddle Dee confers 500 points onto the player.

InKirby Mass Attack, Big Waddle Dee can be found in the following levels and stages:

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Screenshot of Big Waddle Dee

Big Waddle Dee makes a somewhat muted appearance inKirby's Return to Dream Land. It only appears in a handful of places, mostly inside the rifts toAnother Dimension, and appears mainly in Extra Mode. It looks identical to its smaller cousins and is only distinguished by the fact that Kirby spits it out as a giantStar Bullet after inhaling it.

Other appearances and similar[edit]

Later games in the series will often feature Waddle Dees of varying sizes. However, these appearances seldom change the actual characteristics of the Waddle Dee aside from how much physical space it takes up. There are a number of distinguished Waddle Dee entities that are larger than their standard counterparts, however:

Formations such asPuppet Waddle Dee andArmor Waddle Dee also resemble larger Waddle Dees, but are naturally distinct from the actual large Waddle Dees.
