ABig Switch (otherwise known as aSecret Switch) is a very large (usually red with a yellow star in the middle) button which is typically found in hidden or hard-to-reach places. Unlike theirsmaller counterparts, a Big Switch - when pressed - usually unlocks areas in the main hub of its respective area, and then disappears.Kirby comes across them in several ofhis adventures, beginning withKirby's Adventure, and pressing all of them is often required for100% completion of the games they appear in, but not required to complete the game otherwise.

While a Big Switch may have an effect on objects in the stage that it appears in, its primary purpose is usually to unlock something outside of the stage. This is its biggest distinction from standard switches apart from its size. Another distinction is that, if applicable, Kirby can regain his fullhealth by pressing a Big Switch.

Kirby's Adventure /Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

Kirby finds a Big Switch inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.

InKirby's Adventure, Big Switches unlock doors in the main hubs of the areas they are found in. Kirby finds most of them in side-chambers, often blocked off by specific obstacles that can be bypassed using the powers of certainCopy Abilities. Once a Big Switch is pressed, it does not reappear.

Pressing every Big Switch is one of the requirements for100% completion and to unlock theExtra Game. Big Switches can be pressed during Meta Knightmare, but do not unlock anything.

For a full synopsis on where each Big Switch is, and how to reach them, visit the various level pages forKirby's Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, starting withButter Building.

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

There are a small number of stages which require Big Switches to be pressed in different stages to access. Normally the switches are found at the end of the stages they appear in after going through a Goal Door with a ? on it, but this is not always the case. InVolcano Valley - Stage 10 for instance, the Kirbys have to chase someSpace Oohroos who stole the switch by building a spaceship to go after them. The switch, however, actually is not able to be jumped upon untilthe next stage of the island.

Big switches are hidden in stages. Find them to open Extra Stages!
— In-game tip fromKirby Star Allies

Big Switches similar to their original design and function finally return inKirby Star Allies, and can be found in a few stages. Pressing them is necessary to unlock extra stages andDream Palaces, and is also necessary for100% completion.

Unlike in previous titles, Big Switches can be pressed again, but doing so does not unlock more extra stages. Instead, when pressed, the team is healed and some items (usuallyPicture Pieces andPoint Stars) are dispensed. There are specific Big Switches inGuest Star ???? Star Allies Go! that also yield aDream Rod when pressed.
