AnAssist Star is anitem which can be collected inKirby: Triple Deluxe andKirby: Planet Robobot. It resembles a star-shaped bubble containing aFood item of some sort.
Overview[edit]
Assist Stars are handed toKirby orKing Dedede byBandana Waddle Dee in specific parts of stages, usually right beforeboss fights. When collected, it occupies a spot in the lower screen of theNintendo 3DS system, and can be accessed at any time when the player taps it on that screen or by pressing the Y Button. Doing so will activate the Food item inside, restoring Kirby'shealth by a certain amount.
Only one Assist Star can be held at a time. Attempting to collect another will cause it to replace the one previously held, with the replaced star being ejected from Kirby and left to float in the air, where it can be re-collected. An Assist Star will not linger in Kirby's inventory if the game is reset, or aGame Over occurs.
Assist Stars do not despawn until Kirby entirely leaves a room, even persisting after using a3D Warp Star and regardless of whether or not Kirby already touched it. Strangely, if Kirby tries to pick up an ejected Assist Star while still having the other one in his inventory, the next ejected Assist Star will always move towards the position of Bandana Waddle Dee, regardless of how Kirby approaches it.
Assist Stars can contain the following items:
- Cherries
- Flan
- Ice cream cone (and Dedede variant)
- Small tomato
- Energy Drink
- Maxim Tomato
- Reviving Tomato
InStory Mode, the first four items are given in regular stages, while in a boss stages, an Energy Drink is given. If there isStreetPass data, the items are an Energy Drink and a Maxim Tomato instead respectively; the same items are also given inDededetour.
Assist Stars are also encountered inThe Arena andThe True Arena for both main-series 3DS games.
