— Flavor text ofArtist inKirby Star Allies

Artist is aCopy Ability that debuted inKirby Star Allies. The Artist ability givesKirby a magical paintbrush which can be used to splatter enemies in paint, and paint entities that can attack autonomously. Kirby also gains the ability to sculpt stone statues which he can then use to bash enemies with. When Kirby gains the Artist ability, he is given a large wooden paintbrush smothered in rainbow-colored paint. He also gains a red hat which resembles a beret and has a paint-covered star inset near the front, and a splash of green paint on the side. As a final touch, Kirby's right cheek is splashed with light blue paint.

The primary provider of the Artist ability is the mid-bossVividria, who uses a similar array of attacks. Artist can be seen as a more developed version of thePaint ability fromKirby Super Star combined with the painting abilities of past bosses such asPaint Roller andAdeleine. However, Artist Kirby does not appear to be as skilled as Adeleine when it comes to painting living creatures, as hers are significantly more powerful.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

Artist debuts inKirby Star Allies. It is obtained fromVividria themid-boss, who also can use this ability when recruited as aFriend. It gives both Kirby and the Vividria Friend a red painter cap adorned with a star and splattered with paint. The ability is unlimited use unless the Painbrush technique is used, which causes Kirby to lose the ability. However, Vividria cannot use Painbrush in any mode.

Sprayed paint from Artist attacks can put out fire and destroyElectro Saws andZan Partizanne's lightning drums, but cannot provide theSplash element to allies. When Artist Kirby, Vividria or Adeleine & Ribbon become the rider ofFriend Star orStar Allies Sparkler, they fire bullets with no element.

Friend Abilities[edit]

Artist has two signatureFriend Abilities:

Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

Artist returns as a playable ability inKirby Fighters 2, unlockable after attainingFighters Rank 21. Its moveset has been altered somewhat, removing the Painbrush move and adding Rising Brush Slash and Masterpiece Movement. In addition, some changes were made to existing moves in order to make them better suited for fighting other players, such as being able to change the direction and angle that paintings jump out in when using Painter. For more precise competitive-oriented information on the Artist ability inKirby Fighters 2, seeMizuumi Wiki's page.

Nintendo Today![edit]

  • Set out on a voyage of training with a colorful paintbrush on your side! Art has the power to save the world!

Trivia[edit]

  • The internal file name for theSusie statue made by the Sculpture attack is 'Goddess'.
  • The Painbrush attack is directly based off of thePaint ability fromKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra, even mimicking its limited-use nature.
  • This ability very likely draws inspiration from the charactersAdo andAdeleine, whose main power is the ability to paint things that came to life. In turn, Adeleine is playable as aDream Friend in the same game the ability debuted with similar moves.
  • Artist Kirby's paint can be used to put out fires and destroyElectro Saws, like attacks with the SplashPower Effect. This implies that Kirby uses a water-based paint and not an oil-based paint, as oil-based paints are flammable.
