Plot synopsis[edit]

King Dedede and Escargoon celebrate amidst the Cappies in their amusement park party.

The episode begins early in the morning atKirby's House whereKirby himself is napping in the nest just outside. He is suddenly awoken whenKing Dedede greets him using his megaphone, and announces to both Kirby andTokkori that he has an announcement to proclaim later. AtCappy Town, Escargoon proclaims to the people that a new amusement park has been built atCastle Dedede and that everyone is "cordially ordered" to attend, with all expenses paid. TheCappies - always eager to jump at the opportunity for free entertainment - are delighted, butTiff naturally is dubious about the proposition, particularly when King Dedede singles out Kirby as a hopeful attendee. A number of days later, the festivities begin and the Cappies gather outside of Castle Dedede. Tiff continues to doubt the King's sincerity, but she is talked down by Dedede and Escargoon as they barge in as usual. From there, the castle drawbridge is lowered, and the residents of Cappy Town come flooding in.

The party begins without any suspicious doings, as the castle courtyard is filled with typical carnival rides and the Cappies are enjoying themselves. Regardless, Tiff and Tuff try to warn Kirby about a possible trap, butFololo & Falala express doubts about the feasibility of one in this situation. At that moment, King Dedede and Escargoon come riding out into the courtyard on floats as confetti follows in their wake, and they announce the official start of the party. Feasts and festivities continue as King Dedede and Escargoon monitor the proceedings from their surveillance room. As Kirby and the kids get on the merry-go-round, Escargoon sabotages the ride, causing it to spin faster and faster until the main group of kids gets tossed out. They land on the roller coaster where they are further tossed around until they fly off and crash through a castle skylight into an unfamiliar room. Although they somehow survived the fall through a glass window onto a solid floor unharmed, they are now isolated and trapped by King Dedede, who appears on a television screen to gloat. He then reveals the kids will be sent on a number of "rides" designed to dispatch them, starting with the "Crushing Caverns". Naturally, they refuse to get on the ride, but awatermelon decoy is left on one of the seats, prompting Kirby to get into the ride in order to eat it. The rest of the kids follow suit after him and the ride takes off.

Meta Knight and his apprentices dispatch the Dedede statues.

After a steep drop, the ride takes the kids down to a water course designed to look like a barren volcanic wasteland with piles of skulls. At that moment, a big stone statue of King Dedede comes to life and starts to chase them down the castle halls. As Dedede and Escargoon watch, the cameras in their surveillance room all start to break down mysteriously, cutting off their ability to track the kids. Just as the statue is about to crush Kirby and his friends,Meta Knight swoops in and stops it. His apprenticesSword andBlade then jump in to report that all the cameras have been disabled. However, at that moment, the Dedede statue picks itself back up, prompting the soldiers to cut it down before it can crush the kids. Meta Knight then warns the kids that there may still be amonster present in the castle and to evacuate the Cappies, but is interrupted again when additional Dedede statues come to life. The kids escape as the knights battle and destroy these statues. At that moment, Dedede's surveillance team manages to get some cameras back up, only to find the statues broken. Dedede decides to call a monster in to finish the job.

Kirby inadvertently destroys seven monsters by singing at them.

Out of theMonster Delivery System comesWalky: the "Microphone Monster". This monster is sent largely as a joke to berate Dedede for his overdue bills, but a plan is suggested regardless to trick Kirby into standing on the teleporter as part of a karaoke contest so he can be sent directly toeNeMeE's Fortress to be "done in" personally by the company. Escargoon mocks this idea by mimicking it on the teleporter, but receives a prompt demonstration when he is sent through the teleporter. At this, King Dedede sets off to start the contest right away. Back outside, Tiff and Tuff are in the process of convincing the Cappies to leave the carnival, but Escargoon gets their attention by announcing the karaoke contest along with massive rewards for the winners. The grand prize is a lifetime supply of watermelons, which gets Kirby's attention in particular. The Cappies are then directed into the throne room, where the teleporter has been disguised as a karaoke stage. The Cappies take turns attempting to sing, but none of them do a particularly good job, and each interrupt each-other. AfterSir Ebrum takes the stage, King Dedede reminds Kirby of the watermelon prize. While the Cappies continue to fight amongst each-other, Kirby tries to force himself through the crowd. Meta Knight warns Tiff not to let Kirby get to the "stage", but at that moment, the N.M.E. Sales Guy pauses the crowd by reiterating watermelons as the grand prize, allowing Kirby to get through.

Thinking the watermelon on screen to be real, Kirby begins toinhale, eating upWalky in the process and gaining theMikeCopy Ability. As Mike Kirby starts to sing, he is sent through the transmitter to N.M.E. headquarters. Kirby continues singing as he goes through the wormhole and emerges on the other side. Much to the surprise of the monsters on the other side of the teleporter however, their plan backfires as Kirby's singing is so loud and painful that it promptly defeats them all. In desperation, the N.M.E. Sales Guy sends Kirby back through the teleporter to Dream Land. From there, Kirby's singing becomes so destructive that the entire castle crumbles into ruin. Atop the pile of rubble, Kirby climbs out, having reverted to normal. Despite this, he fishes out the Walky he presumably spat out, intent on singing some more. Seeing Kirby, however, the Walky runs away in fear. King Dedede and Escargoon follow suit shortly after. The episode ends as Kirby stands there confused.

Differences between versions[edit]

Japanese-only scene where the arcade crane machines are shown.
  • In the Japanese version, the ticket Mayor Len is holding reads "D D Vegas Free Passport", whereas in the international versions, the text is replaced with an image of King Dedede's head.
  • In the Japanese version, there is an additional scene at the carnival involving arcade crane games filled with dolls of various characters from the show. Tiff comments that they didn't get her permission to make dolls of her.
    • Notably, these dolls of Tiff and Tuff would later appear as part of theKirby's 30th Anniversary artwork series, which shows Kirby carrying one of each along the line-up.

Dialogue differences[edit]

  • In the Japanese version, King Dedede complains to the N.M.E. Sales Guy that despite his bills, he is the customer, and therefore, he is God. In the English version, he lies by saying his bill payment is in the mail.
  • In the Japanese version, Escargoon mocks the karaoke plan by singing in English "You ain't nothin' but a hound dog!". This is a reference to the songHound Dog, made famous byElvis Presley.
  • In the Japanese version, the prize announced for the karaoke contest is 9 million Dedededollars as well as a year's supply of watermelons. In the English version, these prizes are split up into second and first, respectively.
  • In the Japanese version, Mayor Len attempts to singY.M.C.A. by theVillage People but gets the acronym wrong, singing "Y.W.C.A." instead.
  • In the Japanese version, Sir Ebrum tries to singFrank Sinatra's songsI Left My Heart in San Francisco andMy Way.
  • In the Japanese version,Walky is able to speak, but can only repeat names. It is also shown that the music inside the karaoke room was coming from it the whole time. In the international versions, Walky only vocalizes at the end by screaming at Kirby.

Trivia[edit]

Iro appears incompletely drawn in one of this episode's scenes.
  • When Kirby,Tiff,Tuff,Fololo & Falala, and theCappy kids board the Crushing Caverns ride, Fololo and Falala are in the third row andSpikehead andHoney are in the fourth. In the next scene, Honey and Spikehead are in the third row, Fololo and Falala are in the first row with Tuff and Kirby, and the fourth row is empty.
  • While in the surveillance room, Escargoon can be heard cracking his knuckles. This seems to imply that - despite being a snail - he has an internal skeleton. This is later contradicted in the episodeShell-Shocked, where it is implied that Escargoon is an invertebrate.
  • In one of the shots where the kids are trapped by King Dedede and about to step onto the Crushing Caverns ride,Iro is incompletely drawn. This was likely caused by the animation team not placing him far enough to the right, thus exposing parts of him that were meant to be concealed by the frame.
  • The song Mike Kirby sings isKihon wa Maru, though naturally, his lyrics cannot quite be understood.
  • In this episode only, the N.M.E. Sales Guy wears a pair of red-framed, blue-lensed glasses instead of the black-framed and orange-lensed glasses he wears in every other appearance.
