Plot synopsis[edit]

The episode begins with the ending of a generic fairy tale read toKirby byTiff atCastle Dedede. As she andTuff comment on the story, their parents come barging in with urgent news, explaining thatPrincess Rona of Planet Pipi is coming to visitDream Land.King Dedede soon hears word of this, and immediately has aspirations to marry her, ordering theWaddle Dees to prepare the castle for a wedding. As word spreads,Cappy Town prepares for the inevitable rush of visitors to the village. Once everything is ready, King Dedede and his court receives their honored guest, who arrives in an egg-shaped spaceship on a runway on top of the castle's main dome. The ship opens to reveal Commander Vee first, who then introduces the princess proper as both step out of their craft. After meeting withSir Ebrum andLady Like, King Dedede interjects and declares that Princess Rona will be his bride, which causes no exceptional response from the Princess.
Following this introduction, Ebrum's family and the Princess sit together for tea. Tuff comments on how pretty the Princess is compared to his sister, while Tiff retaliates by complimenting Commander Vee as Kirby plays with his spoon. Commander Vee then introduces "himself" to Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby just before King Dedede comes barging in with his usual raucous laughter. After pushing Sir Ebrum and Lady Like aside, King Dedede offers to take the Princess on a tour, but Commander Vee interjects, saying the Princess needs rest. Later on, King Dedede complains toEscargoon about Vee's interjection, and decides he'll use the time to practice his propositioning, forcing Escargoon to dress as the princess for the bit and singing rather poorly as his Waddle Dees provide the special effects.

The next day, Princess Rona meets the assembledCappy crowd as Commander Vee walks the castle halls with Tiff and Kirby. As they talk, Vee inadvertently activates one of the King's trap doors, expelling the three from the castle, and giving Vee the idea of visiting Cappy Town instead. As they arrive in town, the Cappies grow puzzled that the Princess is not with them. Vee in particular is interested in Kirby, and enthusiastically follows his lead as the tour progresses; sampling the hors d'oeuvre from the stalls, catching fish, and having the catch made fresh into sushi byChef Kawasaki. Tuff later catches up with them, complaining about how the Princess is "so boring". This causes Vee to briefly lose composure and nearly blow the act in front of the kids, but a rampaging sheep interrupts the group, and Vee gets a chance to save Kirby. As Tiff goes to check on them, she accidentally knocks off Vee's helmet, revealing "him" to be the real Princess Rona.

The group later discusses the circumstances in a secluded spot in the woods as Kirby continues playing, and despite the kids' insistence, Rona must soon return home before her cover is blown to the others. Back at the castle, as the fake princess continues to bore her guests, King Dedede jumps in with a tuxedo on and proposes to her with very little tact or subtlety. The true princess, still disguised as Vee, jumps in and shatters King Dedede's hopes for a wedding, which the fake princess confirms. Enraged, King Dedede challenges Vee to a duel, which she accepts. Tiff urges Rona to reconsider, but she reveals that she will be made queen when she returns to her planet, and this duel will be her last chance to have any fun. The duel then commences, as King Dedede and Vee engage with swords, but King Dedede quickly loses the first engagement and runs off. He then reveals his secret weapon: a giant fishmonster calledSusshi.
As Vee engages Susshi, Kirby jumps in to help, which concerns her, since she has never seen him fight. Kirby attempts toinhale the monster, but to no effect, and instead eats King Dedede's sword, turning intoSword Kirby. Kirby and Vee then engage the monster once again, but make little head way. From the crowd, Kawasaki tells the two to turn the monster into sushi. Vee and Kirby strike together, cutting the monster's tail into sushi ribbons and defeating it. At that moment, another spaceship comes down, out of which steps Elder Pipi, who lightly berates his granddaughter for disguising herself again, revealing the ruse to the crowd. As the visiting royal court prepares to leave, Princess Rona, now in proper attire, prepares Kirby a medal of honor for his bravery, but decides to give him a less formal reward instead, kissing him on the forehead before departing in her spaceship. The episode ends on a framed photograph from the group's visit to Cappy Town.
Differences between versions[edit]
- In the Japanese version, the scene where Chef Kawasaki prepares sushi for Vee and the kids is slightly longer.
Dialogue differences[edit]
- The name of Planet Pipi is derived from the Japanese version, as the name is not mentioned in other languages. The monster Susshi's name is also not mentioned in the English version of this episode, though it would be later mentioned inThe Kirby Quiz.
- In the Japanese version, Rona, while disguised as Vee, directly insults King Dedede at the tea party by calling him unsightly. Escargoon corroborates this with a back-handed compliment instead of insisting on King Dedede's outing.
- In the Japanese version, King Dedede's love songs are different. His song has him repeating the line "I want to chu-chu! I need to chu-chu!" in English, with the word "chu-chu" being a Japanese onomatopoeia for kissing.
- In the Japanese version, the crowd of Cappies outside the castle are begging Princess Rona to come to the village instead of simply gawking at her.
- In the Japanese version, when Rona is visiting Cappy Town disguised as Vee, she makes a point to try and use common words in order to better acquaint herself with the villagers.
- In the Japanese version, Escargoon accuses Princess Rona and Commander Vee of being lovers after she declines King Dedede's proposal.
- In the Japanese version, after being knocked down by Susshi, Rona mutters that she made a mistake and tells Kirby not to interfere because it's not his fight, in the English version she instead mutters Kirby's name and tells him he's too small to battle such a opponent.
Trivia[edit]
- This episode marks the first time Chef Kawasaki prepared a dish that someone other than Kirby enjoyed.
- When King Dedede's proposal is refused by the false princess, the rose he has in his hand shatters like glass.
- One of the main themes of this episode is that of misdirected love. King Dedede falls in love with the fake Princess Rona, Tiff has a crush on Rona while she's disguised as Commander Vee, and Tuff also initially has a crush on the fake Rona.
