Zolochiv (Ukrainian:Золочів) is arural settlement inBohodukhiv Raion,Kharkiv Oblast,Ukraine. It hosts the administration ofZolochiv settlement hromada, one of thehromadas of Ukraine.[2] Population:7,744 (2022 estimate).[3]
This settlement was founded in 1677.[1]
It was a town inKharkov Uyezd ofKharkov Governorate of theRussian Empire.
A local newspaper is published here since 1931.[4]
DuringWorld War II it was under German occupation from October 1941 to August 1943.[5]
In January 1989 the population was 12,878 people.[6]
In January 2013 the population was 9,012 people.[7]
Until 18 July 2020, Zolochiv was the administrative center ofZolochiv Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The area of Zolochiv Raion was merged into Bohodukhiv Raion.[8][9]
In 2022, Russian military expansion into Ukraine began, as a result of which the city ended up in the zone of the occupation of Russian troops.[citation needed] Only in mid-May 2022, Zolochiv was liberated by the Ukrainian military forces.[citation needed]
It is the center of the Zolochiv community, which is actively shelled by Russian artillery.
Until 26 January 2024, Zolochiv was designatedurban-type settlement. On this day, a new law entered into force which abolished this status, and Zolochiv became a rural settlement.[10]
