Yunt Mountains are in westernAnatolia,Aegean Region ofTurkey.

Geography

They are a mountain range and located inİzmir Province andManisa provinces ofTurkey. They are near the districts ofSoma,Kınık,Kırkağaç andBergama.

History

According to ancient time geographerStrabon, the name of the Yunt Mountains in old times wereAspordenon.[1]Aigai, one of the twelve cities of ancientAeolis is on the Yunt Mountains in modernManisa province.Gambrium andPaleogambrion cities, which are mentioned inAnabasis ofXenophon, are on the Yunt Mountains nearBergama andKınık districts. In theHellenistic Period,Philetairos, who was the founder ofPergamon Kingdom andAttalid Dynasty, built a sanctuary dedicated toMagna Mater,Cybele on the Yunt Mountains nearKınık district.[2]
