William Arthur Hurd (born 29 June 1999)[1] is aScotland internationalrugby union player forLeicester Tigers inPremiership Rugby, his preferred position isprop.[2] Born inAshby, Leicestershire, Hurd qualifies for Scotland through his maternal grandmother and previously representedScotland under 20s during the2019 World Rugby Under 20 Championship.[3]

Career

Hurd began playing rugby at Ashby RFC,[3] and was selected in a Midlands under 18s side in 2016,[4] before attendingCardiff Metropolitan University. Hurd was selected for Scotland's under 20s in 2019,[5] before being selected for theBUCS Super Rugby team of the year in 2020.[3]

On 17 February 2021 Hurd signed for his home town sideLeicester Tigers.[6][7] He made his debut as a replacement in Leicester'sEuropean Rugby Challenge Cup Round of 16 win againstConnacht on 3 April 2021.[8]

In January 2024 Hurd was named inScotland's squad for the2024 Six Nations Championship,[9] but injured a foot in Leicester's next game, a defeat to Leinster in the European Champions Cup, and had to drop out.[10]

He made hisScotland debut againstCanada on 6 July 2024 atTD Place Stadium in Ottawa. Scotland won the match 73 points to 12. Hurd has the Scotland no. 1226.[11]
