Wilhelm Haferkamp (German pronunciation:[ˈvɪlhɛlmˈhaːfɐˌkamp]; 1 July 1923 – 17 January 1995) was a long-time member of theEuropean Commission.[1] Born in Germany, he was asocial democratic politician. He was appointed to the commission by theWest German government in 1967. He served in a number of posts includingVice President until 1985. He died inBrussels.

In theRey Commission from 1967 he served asCommissioner for Energy. His portfolio then expanded to include theInternal Market in 1970 under theMalfatti Commission andMansholt Commission until 1973 when he joined theOrtoli Commission asCommissioner for Economic, Finance, Credit and Investments. His last post wasCommissioner for External Relations, which he served as until 1985 under theJenkins andThorn Commissions.[2]
