Westmalle is a village in theBelgian province ofAntwerp which is part of themunicipality ofMalle.
Westmalle is primarily known for theTrappist Abbey of Westmalle of the Order ofCistercians of the Strict Observance (O.C.S.O.:Ordo Cisterciensium reformatorum), and itsbrewery. The Trappist monks operate a brewery and also makecheese. In addition, theMonasterium Magnificat of Westmalle is the onlymonastery of theAnnunciade Order in Belgium.Westmalle Castle dates back to 1100. TheScherpenbergwindmill is still operational and is open to visitors.
The statue of the "Pedaalstompers"[2] commemorates the world record of the longest bicycle.
