West Torrens Birkalla Soccer Club, commonly known asBirkalla, is asemi-professionalsoccer club based inNovar Gardens, a south-western suburb ofAdelaide in theCity of West Torrens. The club was founded in 1979 as a merger betweenWest Torrens (1967) andBirkalla Rovers. The club currently plays inState League 1 South Australia, previously competing in theNational Premier Leagues South Australia in 2022. The club has played at their current home ground, Jack Smith Park, since their formation.
West Torrens Birkalla has two predecessors; The first,West Torrens was founded in 1967 and competed in the third division, winning no major honours. The second,Birkalla Rovers, was founded in 1933, winning six first division titles and fourFederation Cups. The club claims the history of anotherWest Torrens club founded in 1925 following a merger betweenHindmarsh,Cheltenham andHoldens United, however this club had ceased to exist by the end of the 1950s.[1]
