Warren J. Schaeffer (born January 28, 1985) is an American professionalbaseballcoach. He is the third base coach for theColorado Rockies ofMajor League Baseball.

Career

Schaeffer is fromVandergrift, Pennsylvania. He attendedGreensburg Central Catholic High School inGreensburg, Pennsylvania, where he played on the school's baseball team as ashortstop[1][2] and he led the Centurions to the PIAA Class A title and a runner-up finish in the WPIAL.[citation needed] He enrolled atVirginia Tech and played for theVirginia Tech Hokies. TheColorado Rockies selected Schaeffer in the 38th round of the2007 MLB draft. He played inMinor League Baseball for the Rockies organization for six seasons.[3]

After he retired, Schaeffer remained in the Rockies organization as acoach.[3] Schaeffer was named themanager of theAsheville Tourists for the 2015 through 2017 seasons, and theHartford Yard Goats for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.[4] He was named the manager of theAlbuquerque Isotopes for the 2020 season,[5] which was cancelled due to theCOVID-19 pandemic. He returned to manage Albuquerque in the 2021[6] and 2022 seasons.[7]

On November 7, 2022, the Rockies promoted Schaeffer to their major league coaching staff as their third base and infield coach for the 2023 season.[8]

Personal life

Schaeffer's wife, Callie (née Rhodes), playedsoftball at Virginia Tech.[3] They have two children.[9]
