Wadi Fira (Arabic:وادي فيرا)[4] is one of the 23provinces of Chad. Itscapital is the town ofBiltine.[5] The province corresponds with the formerprefecture ofBiltine.[6]
The province bordersBorkou Region,Ennedi-Ouest Region andEnnedi-Est Region to the north,Sudan to the east,Ouaddaï Region to the south, andBatha Region to the west. The terrain is savannah merging into theSahara Desert in the north, and rising to the east.
Biltine is the province's capital; other major settlements includeGuéréda,Iriba andMatadjana.[7]
As per the 2009 Chadian census, Wadi Fira's population is 508,383.[2] The main ethnolinguistic groups are theAmdang,Baggara (generally speakers ofChadian Arabic),Maba,Mararit,Tama andZaghawa.[8]
