Waddesdon is a closed station that served the village ofWaddesdon and itsmanor, to the north ofAylesbury inBuckinghamshire, England. The station is not to be confused withWaddesdon Road railway station at the other end of theWaddesdon Manor estate on theBrill Tramway.
The station was first opened asWaddesdon Manor by theMetropolitan Railway on 1 January 1897.[1] "Manor" was dropped from the name on 1 October 1922.[1]It was the first station north ofAylesbury on the section of theMetropolitan Railway between Aylesbury andVerney Junction.
The Metropolitan Railway amalgamated with several other transport companies to form theLondon Passenger Transport Board in 1933. The station was closed on 6 July 1936[2] when their services were curtailed atAylesbury.[1]
While open, the station was also served by formerGreat Central Main Line (running on the same tracks as the Metropolitan line as far asQuainton Road) which was not itself closed to passengers until 1966, under theBeeching Axe.
Today one platform of the station (on the side remote from the remaining track) remains; the other has been demolished. Until 2021 the line was used for a daily freight train carrying waste from London to Calvert, as well as special services between Aylesbury andQuainton Road for events at theBuckinghamshire Railway Centre.
Because of its association with theMetropolitan line this station is considered to be one of theClosed London Underground stations although it is 42.5 miles (68.4 km) from London and is not underground.
