TheWack Hofmeister Stadium formerly theAltes Stadion Abensberg (the Old Stadium) is amotorcycle speedway andassociation football stadium located slightly east of the centre ofAbensberg in Germany.[1][2][3]
It hosts the speedway team MSC Abensberg[4] and the football team TSV Abensberg 1862.[5]
The stadium has hosted international matches for theWest Germany national speedway team[6] and in 1964, held theSpeedway World Team Cup final.[7]
Also referred to as the Motorstadion Abensberg, the venue hosted the1985 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship. It was won byPer Jonsson on 14 July 1985, who later became a world champion.[8] The most prestigious speedway event to be held at the track was the first everSpeedway Grand Prix of Germany in 1995,[9] which formed part of the World Championship. The1995 Speedway Grand Prix of Germany was won by the DaneTommy Knudsen.[10]
In 2022, the stadium was renamed in honour of former speedway riderJosef Hofmeister (nicknamed Wack Hofmeister).[11][12]
