Vichuga was first mentioned as avolost in the will ofIvan III in 1504. Marshal of the Soviet UnionAleksandr Mikhaylovich Vasilevsky was born in Novaya Golchikha, now part of Vichuga, on 30 September 1895.
In 1932 aprotest/uprising occurred among the workers of Vichuga. It was sparked by poor condition and a pay decrease. In the end the party conceded to the workers demands[10]
^abcLaw #145-OZ stipulates that the borders of the administrative districts are identical to the borders of the municipal districts. The Law #4-OZ, which describes the borders and the composition of Vichugsky District, does not list the town of Vichuga as a part of that district.
