Image copyright

[edit]

What is the copyright status ofImage:StauntonSet.jpg ? If you do not own the copyright to this image or have permission to use it under the FDL, we cannot use it. I have removed it fromchess for now.—Eloquence 05:45, Feb 26, 2004 (UTC)

Until you identify the source and/or copyright status ofimage:Baseball.gif (nowimage:baseball.jpg) it will have to be removed from all articles.Ed g2s

Thanks for uploadingImage:BobbyFischer.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have animage copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know whether it's released under theGFDL, whetherfair use is claimed, or what? Thanks,Quadell(talk) (help)[[]] 01:55, Oct 2, 2004 (UTC)

Unverified images

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

I notice it currently doesn't have animage copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know itscopyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under theGNU Free Documentation License, {{PD-self}} if you wish to release your own work to the public domain, {{fairuse}} if you claimfair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, justlet me knowat my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much.Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 06:46, Dec 25, 2004 (UTC)

P.S. You can help tag other images atUser:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

Image TaggingImage:FrankMarshall.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign
This image may bedeleted.

Thanks for uploadingImage:FrankMarshall.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so thecopyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use{{GFDL}} to release it under theGFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please readfair use, and then use a tag such as{{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed atWikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. SeeWikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.Sanbec09:53, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Bluemax4.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploadingImage:Bluemax4.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so thecopyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the{{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under theGFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria atWikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as{{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed atWikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. SeeWikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. Unspecified source for Image:AlfredNobel.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploadingImage:AlfredNobel.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so thecopyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the{{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under theGFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria atWikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as{{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed atWikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. SeeWikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BobbyFischer.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploadingImage:BobbyFischer.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under aclaim of fair use. However, it is currentlyorphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (seeour policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in anyarticles will be deleted after seven days, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.BJBot (talk)12:33, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
