Can you give details of the copyright status of the image ofSuzy Parker you recently uploaded? Unfortunately Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material unless specific permission has been given to release it under theGFDL under which the Wikipedia content is distributed. Public domain material of course is fine.
If you place information on [[Image:Sp-t05.jpg]], it would put our minds at ease about the issue.

Hi, Michael -- Despite my numerous changes I like theTrench coat article. If you don't like what I did to your opening sentence I won't fight if you restore it. Maybe the encyclopedia needs some breezier writing. The subject of the article should be bolded in the first sentence, though. I also put a redirect page atTrenchcoat.Trontonian 15:46, 29 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Glad to have contributed to the article. Nice pic, by the way. I'm going to be following up some of the other articles about clothing. Thesafari jacket could probably be the subject of its own encyclopedia.Trontonian 23:06, 30 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Who keeps deleting my Ellen Bry Stub Article? I would like to see it left as is until I can get some decent biographical info on her... Please and Thanks,Michael Reiter.
That particular article is being deleted in accordance with point 4 on the list of "Candidates for speedy deletion" of theWikipedia:Deletion policy. I suggest you move the currentEllen Bry article toUser:Michael Reiter/Ellen Bry and work on it there until it's up to stub quality, at which time you can move it back. Merry Christmas All. Can somebody tell me why uploading has been disabled, and if it is effecting everybody on Wikipedia? Hope it's nothing I did.Michael Reiter.
Hello, all. What seems to be the matter? I can't seem to get my article on Barbara Bain to download. I hope some one can help...

Yes. Thanks for the come back.

Should we have an article on everybody who may have ever worn a hat?RickK 03:27, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I just wanted to let you know that I edited your recent changes to theJämthund images. Since wikipedia articles don't have authors as such--just many contributors--it's not really appropriate to refer to "the author". Also, descriptions of images in articles should generally talk about the image as it relates to the article. Hence none of the dog photos *in the articles* give the owners' names, dogs' names, and so on. But of course if anyone clicks on an image, they get the bigger version *and* the detailed description of the particular photo, as inImage:JamthundA.JPG orImage:BedlingtonTerriers_wb.jpg.
Given all that, I'm so sorry for the apparently recent loss of your friend. It is so hard to lose a dog. I lost my favorite last year, very suddenly, to an aggressive cancer (hemangiosarcoma), and even having 2 other dogs around, there's still a huge painful hole left by his absence. My sympathy is with you.Elf |Talk18:49, 17 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Huh--You mean it's not 1994 any more? I still sometimes date my checks (not intentionally) '84, so who can tell--.Elf |Talk00:52, 19 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Michael,
There is already a link to theList of fictional dogs on theGerman Shepherd Dog page. That list includes Ace The Bat-hound. There are lots of famous fictional GSDs. I don't think we want to duplicate large portions of that list on the GSD page. If you don't think it is sufficient to rely on the list of fictional dogs, how about creating a page with aList of fictional German Shepherd Dogs, which would also include Ace? It would be challenging to keep the GSD only list up-to-date with respect to the all dogs list. I understand from Elf that this has been done on other dog breed pages. If you don't think this is acceptable, would you please go toTalk:German Shepherd Dog and explain why Ace is so exceptional that he needs to be linked directly from the GSD page. Thanks.DSurber 18:00, Oct 16, 2004 (UTC)
Hi, I'vestarted a drive to get users tomulti-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using theCreative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0Licenses or into thepublic domain if they prefer. TheCC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, theGFDL, but it allowsother projects, such asWikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among thetop 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or atminimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options atTemplate messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
OR
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" with "{{MultiLicensePD}}". If you only prefer using theGFDL, I would like to know that too.Please let me know what you think at mytalk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. --Ram-Man (comment|talk)
Multi-licensed into the public domain | ||
I agree to multi-license my eligible text contributions, unless otherwise stated, underWikipedia's copyright terms and into thepublic domain. Please be aware that other contributors might not do the same, so if you want to use my contributions in the public domain, please check themulti-licensing guide. |
You wrote "I believe it is, because I got it from www.us.imdb.com before they cracked down on downloaders... It must be okay, because that's where I got it from; before the afore mentioned site's crackdown."

I've putImage:MicroSamanthaEggar.JPG up fordeletion sinceImage:SamanthaEggar.jpg is a larger version. You can specify the width of an image so there's no need to upload multiple images of different sizes. For example:

Hi Michael.
I usedAdobe Photoshop CS2 to edit the 'Martin Landau, Barbara Bain ...' image. The picture should look better on most monitors, but if you don't like what I've done to your image then you can go back to the original one by clicking on the '(rev)' radio-button, which will revert to the previous (i.e., your original) upload. "getting the bum's rush" (a) means nothing to probably a large portion of the encyclopedia's readers--it's a colloquialism and not necessarily a widely spread one, and (b) adds nothing at all to the understanding of the German Shepherd breed. The comment just doesn't belong in the caption in the article.It can be on the image's description page all you want, because that page is about the image, but I don't see how it adds value--and in fact confuses the issue--on the GSD page. Can you clarify why you think it does belong there? Thanks.Elf |Talk22:15, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
When you set a tag like{{promophoto}}
you are asserting that the source of the image is known, not just to you, but to Wikipedia as a whole. This is not the case in the images that you have recently added this tag to. Can you, please, cite the URL or other source from which you got those images? It's actually strong Wikipedia policy that all images must have source attribution. Thank you. -Harmil04:14, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Image deletion warning | Image:Orange flight suit.jpg has been listed atWikipedia:Images and media for deletion. If you feel that this image should not be deleted, please go there to voice your opinion. |
I have nothing to do withImage:Orange_flight_suit.jpg being listed for deletion, other than having been the one to point out that it was listed without source information. I do imagine that it will be deleted, though. Generally Wikipedia has to be pretty strict about knowing the origin and copyright status of its images in order to comply with the applicable U.S. laws. -Harmil16:33, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
We've discussed this before, but clearly it needs to be said again: I request that you review your recent image edits, and where the template that you are using suggests that a source is known, please list the source. Image sourcing is becoming an increasingly important topic on Wikipedia, and I can guarantee that any image that you do not source will be deleted at some point in the future (not by me) unless its source is painfully obvious, and even then there is substantial question around the legality of assumiung the source of the image.
If you are uploading / editing images because you want them to remain on Wikipedia, list the URLs, photographers, artists, scanned source material or whatever other information you can come up with for the source of the images. If you do not, you are acting in direct violation of Wikipedia policy, and there's very little chance that your work will remain. -Harmil13:28, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove the "nosource" image tag from any image unlesss the source for the image has been identified. Proper identification of the source would ordinarily consist of the name and address of the photographer or copyright holder and the approximate date the photograph was taken.The Uninvited Co.,Inc.16:27, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The consensus was (by others, not me) that there was weak fair use justification (See attached discussion) to keep the images and a free replacement could easily be made (although no one has stepped up to create one). Número uno - tone it down three or four notches,BOLD CAPS and multiple exclaimation marks don't impress anyone, and don't take it so personally (and "do not deleteTHE image"? Huh?)
Número dos - I'm not listing it as "no source" or "no licence", so it being "uploaded with all the appropriate information!!!!" is irrelevant. And if I was, I would just tag it rather than sending it toWP:IFD.
Número tres - it IS washed out. The blacks are browns, the white is beige. And the red on his badge is yellow. -SoM19:07, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Oh so witty - did it take you a whole day to think up a way to "say" fuck you ('cause that's what the caps do) without actually "saying" it?

And I really get the feeling I don't want to engage with you. NO, it was not "fuck you." I don't know you, I don't care about you, so WTH would I put the effort into a personal slight?
If you respond again, I won't respond back. -SoM16:43, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am an admin., but you don't really need one; you just need to vote to keep the image (atWikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2005 October 31). You andSoM seem to have managed a series of escalating misunderstandings, in which you each thought the other was being abusive; it's clear, though, that neither of you was. If you can both take a few deep breaths and try again, you might still disagree over the image, but at least you can disagree in a friendly fashion. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης)21:27, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are misunderstanding how copyright laws work. Take a look atPublic_domain#Expiration. Unless the work was published before 1923 or the author has been dead for 70 years, the work is not in public domain in the United States. Also, placing a picture on an eBay auction does not mean the author has released it into public domain. -SCEhardT21:08, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploadingImage:Barbara_Bain,_Martin_Landau_and_Catherine_Schell.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so thecopyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the{{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under theGFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria atWikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as{{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed atWikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. SeeWikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by followingthis link.Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploadingImage:BarbaraFeldon.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used underfair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails ourfirst fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
,without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject,requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking onthis link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per ourFair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Thank you.MER-C08:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing toImage:SUZYPARKERANDCOLLINWILCOXPREOP.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used underfair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go tothe image description page and edit it to include afair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. My name is Joanne Tranquille I saw the picture of your dog and actually took a double take for I thought it was a picture of my dog Jessie. They could be sisters for they look identical. Jessie is 14 going on 15. She came to us many years ago, she was badly abused. It took me 6 weeks to get near her but she has been such a fantastic dog and we love her dearly. We always thought that she was a shepard part wolf until I met a breeder and informed us that she might be related to another breed but diffenitly not shepard or wolf. When I came across the picture that you had posted of your dog I was so glad to find out her bread.I wish to thank you for posting Joanne—Precedingunsigned comment added by24.129.231.98 (talk)05:27, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for uploadingImage:Moonlighting-Shakespeare02.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions atWikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates atWikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to ourcriteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at themedia copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk)23:32, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for uploadingImage:Barbara2.JPG. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia'scriteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go tothe image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them atWikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.STBotI (talk)20:51, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for uploadingImage:Electric Blue Ski Jacket Snow Queen With Her Head Back E .jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set ofimage copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag fromthis list, click onthis link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message onWikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk)20:12, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for uploadingFile:Safari Bush Jacket Baroness aka Susan Anton B.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takescopyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine thelicense and thesource of the file. If you know this information, then you can add acopyright tag to theimage description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by followingthis link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at themedia copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.Polly (Parrot)00:48, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
