TheUniversity of Leeds Boat Club (UOLBC) is therowing club for students at theUniversity of Leeds,West Yorkshire, England. The club races in green, burgundy and white colours representing those of theUniversity of Leeds and is affiliated toBritish Rowing.[1] The club owns and maintains a variety of different rowing and sculling boats of different classes.
The club was founded in 1919[2] and members were able to initially use the facilities of theBradford Amateur Rowing Club.[3]
During the 1920s and early 1930s the boathouse was located atRodley on the bank of theLeeds and Liverpool Canal.[4] Another boathouse which was built in 1921 in the village ofCalverley was used by the students.[5]
In 1937 the club moved to a new boathouse at Swillington,Woodlesford on the Aire.[6]
Having occupied a variety of buildings throughout the area, the current water base is located inLeeds following the completion of a new boat house which opened in September 2014 next toThwaite Mills in Stourton. Land training takes place in Leeds University's sport complex on the main campus in Leeds.
The club competes at local and national events[7] and has had a number of notable achievements[8] from competing at BUCS,Head of The River andHenley Royal Regatta – reaching the second round of theTemple Challenge Cup in 2004 and 2007.
