The elmcultivarUlmus 'Rotundifolia' was raised from seed at theJardin des plantes, Paris, and first described byCarrière inRevue Horticole, 1868, asUlmus rotundifolia.[1] It was later listed byMottet inNicholson & Mottet,Dictionnaire pratique d'horticulture et de jardinage (1898), asUlmus campestris var.rotundifoliaHort..[2] It was considered "possiblyUlmus carpinifolia" (: minor) byGreen.[3]
The tree was described as having distinctive rounded, oval orsuborbicular leaves, almost symmetrical at base, up to 12 cm long by 8 to 10 cm wide, and appearing furrowed or "bubbled" on the upper surface.[1][4]
No specimens are known to survive.
