UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson was amixed martial arts event held on September 21, 2013, at theAir Canada Centre inToronto,Ontario,Canada.[2] The main event was inducted into theUFC Hall of Fame's Fight Wing in 2021.
The main event featured aUFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between current championJon Jones andAlexander Gustafsson.[3][4][5] Gustafsson earned his title fight by winning six straight fights in the light heavyweight division.[3] Additionally, Jones was looking to surpass the number of Light Heavyweight title defenses originally set byTito Ortiz.[6]
Co-featured on the card was a rescheduled InterimBantamweight Championship bout between the current championRenan Barão, and formerWEC Bantamweight Champion and top contenderEddie Wineland.[7] The pairing was first planned as the headliner atUFC 161, but was removed from that event after Barão injured his foot.[8]
Mark Bocek was expected to faceMichel Prazeres at this event. However, Bocek pulled out due to an injury and was replaced by UFC newcomerJesse Ronson.[9]
Norifumi Yamamoto was expected to faceIvan Menjivar at the event. However, Yamamoto was removed from the bout and was replaced byWilson Reis.[10]
The event also aired October 17, 2013, onFox Sports 1 less than a month after it took place as part of a special UFC Reloaded.[11]
