Taxonomy

[edit]

When first described, the family contained some of the most familiar fungi, such asPenicillium andAspergillus. In 2011, it was proposed, that the family should be split into the three familiesAspergillaceae,Thermoascaceae and Trichocomaceae.[2]

In an updated phylogeny of theEurotiales published in 2020, there were 8 genera included in the Trichocomaceae.[1] Several more genera are connected to the Trichocomaceae in theMycobank database, some of which await clarification of their standing.[3]
