Thomas Nelson Doyle (born May 1, 1996) is an American professionalbaseballpitcher in theColorado Rockies organization. He made hisMajor League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2020 for the Rockies.
Doyle attendedFlint Hill School inOakton, Virginia.[1] He was drafted by theWashington Nationals in the 35th round of the2014 Major League Baseball draft, but did not sign and playedcollege baseball at theUniversity of Virginia.[2] In 2015, he briefly playedcollegiate summer baseball with theOrleans Firebirds of theCape Cod Baseball League.[3] He was drafted by theColorado Rockies in the second round of the2017 Major League Baseball draft.[4][5]
Doyle made his professional debut with theGrand Junction Rockies. He pitched 2018 with theAsheville Tourists and 2019 with theLancaster JetHawks. Doyle was invited toSpring Training by the Rockies in 2020.[6]
Doyle was promoted to the major leagues by the Rockies on September 23, 2020.[7] He made his major league debut that night against theSan Francisco Giants.
On October 21, 2021, Doyle was outrighted off of the40-man roster.[8] He missed the entirety of the 2022 season after undergoing shoulder surgery.[9]
Doyle began the 2023 season with the Triple–AAlbuquerque Isotopes, making 22 appearances and logging a stellar 1.01 ERA with 29 strikeouts and 3 saves in26+2⁄3 innings pitched. On July 14, 2023, the Rockies selected Doyle's contract, adding him to the active roster.[10] In 15 games for Colorado, he struggled to a 6.85 ERA with 18 strikeouts across23+2⁄3 innings of work. On November 17, Doyle wasdesignated for assignment following the acquisition ofCal Quantrill.[11] He was non-tendered and became a free agent on November 17.
On November 25, 2023, Doyle signed a minor league contract with theAtlanta Braves.[12] He spent the 2024 season with the Triple-AGwinnett Stripers, also making one appearance for the rookie-levelFlorida Complex League Braves. In 33 games for Gwinnett, Doyle compiled a 3-2 record and 3.48 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 3 saves across41+1⁄3 innings pitched. Doyle elected free agency following the season on November 4, 2024.[13]
On January 22, 2025, Doyle signed a minor league contract with theColorado Rockies.[14]
