Tjust (Swedish pronunciation:[ˈɕʉːst])[1] was one of the small lands ofSmåland,Sweden. It was divided into the hundreds ofTjust Northern Hundred andTjust Southern Hundred. It corresponds toVästervik Municipality and the southern part ofValdemarsvik Municipality.
In his 500sGetica, Jordanes mentions a Scandinavian tribetheustes, possibly the inhabitants of Tjust. Tjust is also mentioned in the dative singularþiusti on theSödermanland runic inscription 40 from the 1000s. In the 1103 Florens list, it is also found in the Latin formTeuste.[2]
