Tigrisoma is agenus ofherons in the familyArdeidae.
Thegenus was erected by the English naturalistWilliam Swainson in 1827, with therufescent tiger heron (Tigrisoma lineatum) as thetype species.[1][2] The genus name combines theAncient Greektigris, meaning "tiger" andsôma, meaning "body".[3]

Beautiful in flight, with great markings on the feathers. Nest mostly resembles a jumbled pile of twigs with openings large enough to allow eggs to fall through occasionally. Call sounds like a sick cow. A contrast in elegance and coarseness.
