The Roaring Forties (French:Les quarantièmes rugissants) is a 1982Frenchdrama film directed byChristian de Chalonge and starringJacques Perrin,Julie Christie andMichel Serrault.[1] The film was loosely based on the bookThe Strange Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst byNicholas Tomalin about the death of the British businessman and amateur sailorDonald Crowhurst, who disappeared while competing in theSunday Times Golden Globe Race, asingle-handed,round-the-worldyacht race held in 1968–69.
The film's sets were designed by theart directorMax Douy. It was partly made at theBillancourt Studios inParis.Location shooting took place aroundFinistère.
