Removal of notable passengers and notable crew members groups
[edit]Until I edited it, this template had two additional groups, "Notable passengers" and "Notable crew members". They were added byPrioryman and an anon, respectively. I have been bold and taken the liberty of removing them from this template for the following reasons:
- The Guarantee Group (Andrews, etc) and the musicians qualify for listing under both categories.
- There are no obvious criteria for determining whether a particular person is notable enough to qualify for listing under the "Notable _____'s" group on this template. To avoid disputes it is better to simply have no such listing.

- I suggest you return the section: they were notable enough to warrant a Wikipedia article! Some of these people are part of the lore of the sinking. Highly relevant.Verne Equinox (talk)15:58, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I disagree. Again, I'm not sure everyone listed there is notable enough to be there. Note that being notable enough for an article is not the same as being "supernotable" enough to warrant listing on this template. Also, I'm not sure "being part of the lore of the sinking" is a clear enough criteria. For example, what about Steward Cox? He saved several people, but Hart and Pearcey were also in the same group of stewards. And Hart is far better known (he's specifically mentioned in the sinking article, without having an article) while Cox is not. Any sort of suitably broad interpretation of "supernotability" would inevitably include Hart if Cox is included.Miss Madeline |Talk to Madeline20:33, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Will split victims and survivors out of the passengers category
[edit]Hey, so I just got done adding most of the passengers who had Wikipedia articles about them to the template. In the next couple of days I will split them between survivors and victims so it looks a little less crowded.

Addition of Herbert Haddock to the template
[edit]I have addedHerbert Haddock to the "Others" sub-section of the "Related" section of the template. In doing this I would note that Captain Haddock's own article makes substantial reference to the Titanic and its sinking and there are 3 points in particular that made me feel he should be included in this template. 1) As his own article notes he was "nominally the first commander ofRMSTitanic" as prior toCaptain Smith's arrival in Belfast on 31 March 1912 he oversaw the new crew. 2) He was master ofRMSOlympic when she responded toTitanic's distress calls and headed for her position untilRMSCarpathia informed him thatTitanic was lost and there was no point in continuing. 3) Haddock was interviewed for theUnited States Senate inquiry into the sinking ofTitanic.Dunarc (talk)20:13, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- For similar reasons, I have now also addedHarold Cottam to this section. Cottam's own article already included the template and the majority of that article relates to his role in receivingTitanic's distress call and his part in ensuringRMSCarpathia's speedy response which allowed for the rescue of theTitanic survivors.Dunarc (talk)22:42, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
