Birthdate?

[edit]

Is there a reason Mr. Mercer's date of birth (June 29, 1982) isn't included in the biographical portions of this article?JediChemist (talk)01:42, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It needs to be sourced. SeeWP:BLPPRIVACY Do you have a reference for it?AngusWOOF (barksniff)02:23, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Troy Baker -- references?

[edit]

Iadded a refimprove template with this edit summary explaining why: "mentions of Troy Baker are referenced by tweets that don't mention Troy Baker. I Googled "Troy Baker Matthew Mercer replace" and there may be some legitimacy, but right now the referencing is poor and will take some work to fix." --David Tornheim (talk)18:38, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

David Tornheim, can you tag{{failed verification}} on any of the sources that don't support mercer's role in the show instead?AngusWOOF (barksniff)18:50, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay.--David Tornheim (talk)17:41, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you or someone else took out the unsourced material. Thanks. The remaining sourcing still looks pretty weak, using Tweets. --David Tornheim (talk)17:46, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
David Tornheim, I still have to scrub through the video games section. Only did the anime one. The recent edits lacked sources.AngusWOOF (barksniff)19:03, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@AngusWOOF: Okay. Well, if you are top of it, I'll leave it to you. If you want help later, please let me know. It's not a page that particularly interests me and not a subject I am familiar with--I got here because of vandalism reversion. But it is important to me that we not include badly referenced orWP:PROMO material, and I am motivated to take that stuff out of any article. --David Tornheim (talk)20:20, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
David Tornheim, no worries, I don't want badly referenced stuff either. If Mercer makes a tweet saying "I voice X in Y", I check the video game credits and news aritcles first to see if he is even listed in the credits. If he isn't credited, I can't add that entry in there unless there are other sources (directors listing their casts in tweets). That's why I still left some of the entries where it's in the resume, but would require someone to actually go watch the show / play the video game to get to the credits section to conclusively check for his name.AngusWOOF (barksniff)21:17, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Weak sourcing -- Tweets

[edit]

AngusWOOF I responded to you above, and thanks for helping to address concerns I raised. One of the reasons I tagged the page was because I see frequent use of Tweets by the subject asWP:RS, such as:[1], and other Tweets:

References

  1. ^@marisha_ray (October 22, 2017)."It is done!" (Tweet) – viaTwitter.

A search shows 53 instances of the word tweet in the article. I would be happy to remove all Tweets that are not appropriate refs--some of course may be. It seems like you and other experienced editors are interested in the sourcing for the page, so it would be fine with me if you wanted to remove these. --David Tornheim (talk)18:25, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

David Tornheim, Marisha Ray was his fiancee / now spouse, so I would treat that as primary sourceWP:ABOUTSELF when they announce stuff like getting married or having a kid.AngusWOOF (barksniff)21:11, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
David Tornheim, a lot of tweets are in response to naming specific roles in video games. The video game itself already credits them in a list of voices, so having Mercer clarify which roles he had with Tweets is okay for sourcing, again withWP:ABOUTSELF, as long as the role is not an extraordinary claim.AngusWOOF (barksniff)21:13, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Mercer Effect?

[edit]

The Critical Role mention seems very small considering his prominence in exposure from it, and the prevailing controversy surrounding the so-called "Matt Mercer Effect" that his DMing for that series has caused. It is this that has made him well known being a part of Critical Role for his DMing style, and being its main DM. Seems strange to leave that part a footnote as only part of a table since it is his biggest project for the past 5 years.shadzar-talk11:27, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ninety-Nine Nights II role?

[edit]

In the videos games section of the filmography, it says he was in Ninety-Nine Nights II and under role it just says 'yeah'. Is... that a valid role?— Precedingunsigned comment added byXRAINxOFxBLOODx (talkcontribs)08:04, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
