Yang Kaihui (1901–1930) of Changsha: married 1920 to 1927, executed by the KMT in 1930; mother to Mao Anying, Mao Anqing, and Mao Anlong

The marriage start time should be 1920, which was already mentioned in the summary panel, and here it creates conflicting information. Alsohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yang_Kaihui states they married in 1920 winterNobodyxxxyyy (talk)08:30, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Folly Mox, you said atCommons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Mao Zedong in 1959 thatWP:URAAseems to show that the copyright term for URAAed photographs from the PRC as "50 pr", which would mean that these images are free as of 2009. Does anyone else have thoughts about this vis à vis potentially usingFile:Mao Zedong 1959 color.jpg as the lead image?Remsense ‥ 19:56, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User:Y-S.Ko, can you be more specific about what exactly in these diffs (Special:Diff/1286602815/1286645330) that you object to? You reverted several improvements in my view, including:

  • Correction on the timeline of Mao's librarian job and the May Fourth Movement. As the article states, he had already left Beijing for Changsha when the movement began, and participated in it there.
  • More clear description of the Great Leap Foward: "aiming to transform China's economy fromagrarian toindustrial" vs. "aimed to rapidly collectivise agriculture and industrialise the country."
  • Opening the last paragraph with "Mao's legacy is deeply controversial." to prime the reader for the next sentences, which take both sides of the debate on his legacy.
  • Various link and wording improvements, like "introduced" instead of "exposed", a link to "Five-year plans of China" instead of "Industry of China", "which killed millions" to emphasize the catastrophe of the famine in the chronology, etc.

Goszei (talk)21:31, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My worry is about the last two.
(1) "controversial" issue: InTalk:Mao_Zedong/Archive_10#Mao_controversial_figure?, there are readers who felt problematic to the word "controversial". Second, I don't think "controversial"do not summarize Legacy section. In Legacy section, there are opinions about Mao is somewhat right, and somewhat wrong. But the survey 85% in China have similar assessment is far from "controversial". I want more appropriate word. How about "diverse opinions" or something. But I cannot find appropriate word. ("Controversial" is not)
(2) InTalk:Mao_Zedong/Archive_11#Recent_change, there are consensus agreeing about "trimming deaths for Great Leap Forward, namely that we already have a good deal of millions of death material in the lead."
These are the last consensus about this article. Therefore, I reverted your edits.Y-S.Ko (talk)23:52, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can get on board with "controversial" not being the best word. What about describing his legacy as "deeply divisive" or "deeply contested"? In the future, I ask that you please only revert the specific parts which you object to. I have restored the changes besides the ones being discussed. —Goszei (talk)23:57, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the survey 85% in China have similar assessment makes even "divisive" or "contested" problematic. I once thought "ambivalent assessment", but I suspected even this word cannot summarize Legacy section properly. "Important and influential" is used in Legacy section. If you want opening sentence in last paragraph of lead, how about "important and influential"?Y-S.Ko (talk)00:14, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We aren't just talking about his legacy as perceived by people in modern-day China, but in general (historical, scholarly, within the international left, etc.). His legacy is unequivocally controversial/contested by these standards, just asChiang Kai-shek orJoseph Stalin's are, as noted in their respective leads. It goes without saying from the rest of the lead that his leadership was "important and influential". —Goszei (talk)19:44, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I often find "controversial" to be a bit of an empty statement in our articles. I am more interested in "contested legacy" although some might still say that is not very concrete.JArthur1984 (talk)20:10, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I revised your edit, explaining why in edit summary.Y-S.Ko (talk)00:37, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

On what grounds was the old photo removed? The new one is of a lower quality and at a funny angle.90.212.103.38 (talk)09:50, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
