Francis Solano

Why doesFrancis Solano redirect here? They are not the same person. (External links:Francis of Paola vs.Francis Solano.

Thanks for pointing out the mistake. Someone has already fixed it. —Ian Spackman21:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copied Text

[edit]

The section 'Extraordinary Immunity' is basically a straight copy from the Reader's Digest bookMysteries of the Unexplained page 262. Someone might want to consider remedying this. --121.220.0.18406:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anachronism

[edit]

It is anachronistic to apply the trendy term "veganism" to his diet. A more correct term would beblack fast.Rwflammang (talk)22:23, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

TAKEN FROM THE CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA

[edit]

Large gobbets of this, including the pietistic tone, come from the Catholic Encyclopedia, which is no doubt an eminently respectable source but over a hundred years old and obviously terribly POV. Compare the following from the Cath. Encycl. with the Wikipedia article: "When still in the cradle he suffered from a swelling which endangered the sight of one of his eyes. His parents again had recourse to Francis of Assisi, and made a vow that their son should pass an entire year in 'the little habit' of St Francis in one of the convents of his order, a not uncommon practice in the Middle Ages. The child was immediately cured." Those who are experts on the subject might like to contribute a more contemporary encyclopedic account?Campolongo (talk)08:50, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Catholic propaganda

[edit]

It should be glaringly obvious that this article is not neutral. For instance: "His parents were remarkable for the holiness of their lives"--is "holiness" an objectively quantifiable attribute? And what is this assertion, about people living half a millennium ago, based on? I am currently researching for a project on the history of the Catholic Church, and it seems that the vast majority of Wikipedia articles on saints and other historical figures from the church's past are hagiographic, speculative, and propagandistic. I've added a neutrality-dispute tag, which I doubt can be deleted before the article is rewritten from scratch. More importantly, though: it would be important for someone to assess how much Church propaganda is allowed on Wikipedia uncontested.218.191.172.148 (talk)11:08, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Response— Precedingunsigned comment added by47.158.15.238 (talk) 06:20, 2 April 2017 (UTC) You make some great points about this article but please note that he is designated as a saint which means a designation given by the Roman Catholic Church. Once you have entered into that paradigm you may dispute facts as Catholic church historians do but once deny that the Church has the right to designate those people who possess heroic virtue than you should be reading a different entry. An example of this would be reading a book about Thomas More and book about Saint Thomas More. It is you my friend who are engaging in propaganda and down right anti- Catholicism if you do not understand this difference. I am grateful for your attempts to get to the truth— Precedingunsigned comment added by47.158.15.238 (talk)05:57, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
