A family-owned company with corporate offices located inLevittown, Pennsylvania.

Calkins Media started in western Pennsylvania as Calkins Newspapers, Inc. In February 1937, Stanley Calkins purchased his first newspaper, theUniontown Daily News-Standard. The Daily News Standard merged with Uniontown's other daily newspaper,The Morning Herald, and formed what is today theUniontown Herald-Standard.

In 1943, the company entered Beaver County, PA, buying the assets of theAliquippa Gazette - the first of several newspapers purchased in Beaver County. The purchases led to the publication of the current Beaver County Times.

The parent-company expanded into the greater Philadelphia market in 1954 with the acquisition of theBristol Courier in Bristol, PA. and theDoylestown Intelligencer, which it purchased from Senator Joseph Grundy.

The Bristol Courier was later merged with the Levittown Times to form the presentBucks County Courier Times in Levittown, PA.

At the urging of builderWilliam Levitt and to strengthen the Calkins Newspapers position in the Philadelphia market, S.W. Calkins founded the Levittown Times in New Jersey in 1958. The paper was printed at the Courier Times plant in Pennsylvania and had offices onU.S. Route 130 inBurlington, New Jersey. The New Jersey operation was relocated to Willingboro and renamed the Burlington County Times. It is the only Calkins newspaper started from scratch and it still exists as a separate entity.
