Part-time/Indy-only drivers

[edit]

Hey gang, do you think it would make sense to create a subsection of the Teams and drivers table specifically for part-time entries, or those drivers who are only driving in the 500? I'm not entirely sold on the idea myself, even though I'm one the one bringing it up - for example, many of the "Indy-only" drivers will also race in the preceding Indy GP, so it wouldn't necessarily make sense to build a separate table for the few drivers that only race Indy. That's why I also suggested separate full-time and part-time tables, though maybe instead of saying full-time DRIVERS, we make it full-time ENTRIES, so the #20 Ed Carpenter car would be considered full-time even though it's split between two drivers.

OK, yes, I see this is much more complicated than I first imagined. Nonetheless, I think the teams/drivers tables gets pretty massive and cluttered by the end of the season, and certainly there is a way we can improve it.Wicka wicka (talk)11:40, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

HI!, This is what I think you should do with the Teams and Drivers. You should put in the column, the Number 1, then for the next round 2 and so on.The450 (talk)21:11, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think the issue you're trying to solve is pretty insignificant, but I have thought of some ways to perhaps improve the teams and drivers table along similar lines. For one I would split it into two sections, one for the car, including the numbers and rounds it ran, and one for the driver with the rounds they ran seperately. As an example I've taken Dale Coyne Racing's 2016 entries, because they show a lot of changability over the course of a season of the sort you're trying to simplify. First table is as it's shown in the article, second is as I suggest.

I think this could be done even better if there were some succinct way to specify an entry independent of its car number but the only thing I can think of is position in the entrant point standings of the previous season which seems hard to justify. Anyway, the changes I've made at least show that Dale Coyne had two full season entries and one 500 only entry, that Daly ran the full season and that the 18 and 88 were the same entry, without losing any information from the original table. Really the only issue is with driver running for several teams, because you still have to look in several places to see what rounds they ran. I guess that's already shown here with Pippa Mann. How else could the table be improved, and is this good enough to implement?Quintinohthree (talk)

Ed jones is not emirati

[edit]

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emirati_nationality_law

He cant be. Birth i. The uae does not give you nationality.

The indycar ref is not reliable. Its just a cut and paste from his website.

The last FIA series he raced him liat him as British.— Precedingunsigned comment added byThe Thracian (talkcontribs)18:39, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ed Jones' nationality

[edit]

So it seemsEd Jones' nationality is contentious. Rather than sustaining an edit war, I figure it makes more sense to actually discuss this on the talk page. I figure however that, given that [indycar.com/drivers] lists him as Emirati and given that his personal website refers to him as "ARGUABLY THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES MOST SUCCESSFUL RACING DRIVER", it would be rather strange to list him otherwise in this article. So, what should it be and why?— Precedingunsigned comment added byQuintinohthree (talkcontribs)18:56, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Because while he may live there, he doesnt and cannot hold emirati citizenship.— Precedingunsigned comment added byThe Thracian (talkcontribs)19:00, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, that would be a great argument somewhere else, but here that constitutesoriginal research. Besides, we are not dealing with citizenship in a civil sense, but with nationality from a sporting perspective. CompareMax Verstappen where it is noted that "Although Verstappen travels with a Belgian passport and resided in Bree, Belgium, he decided to compete with a Dutch racing licence" and for this reason his nationality is listed as Dutch. Should we not take a similar attitude here? If he competes as an Emirati, does it even matter what his passport says?Quintinohthree (talk)19:25, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Tge difference is that verstappen holds dutch nationality. Jones doesnt hold emirati. And he also doesnt claim to be enirati anywhere, only as b eing from the UAE, which is a very different thing.— Precedingunsigned comment added byThe Thracian (talkcontribs)19:29, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, then please explain whyIndyCar shows him with an Emirati flag, whyEuroFormula Open lists his nationality as "UAE", why theFIA F3 European Championship listed his nationality as "ARE", not just in his single appearance in 2013 but alsoin 2014 from the beginning of the season tothe end? Surely then he is, at least from a sporting perspective, Emirati? Much like Verstappen driving with a Dutch license he drives with an Emirati license. Citizenship simply doesn't come in to the equation.Quintinohthree (talk)20:02, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Thracian was banned for being a sock puppet, so these edits can probably be fixed now.Esw01407 (talk)15:13, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Does it matter that both his driver suit and Indy Lights car in 2016 sported the UK flag instead of the UAE?— Precedingunsigned comment added by89.134.207.77 (talk)08:11, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, as other series fire-suits have the UAE flag. Also, going to the official IndyCar site has him with the UAE flag. Indy Lights entry lists show him with UAE. We might have to wait for the first IndyCar race entry list for further details.Esw01407 (talk)14:35, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Detroit qualifying bonus points

[edit]

I'm not going to keep reverting because this is going to devolve into an edit war, and despite my efforts at communicating directly on user talk, it's still being challenged...

Pursuant to Rule 10.6.3.1 inthis year's rulebook (dated May 20th), one point is awarded to the fastest driver in both qualifying groups. For Race 1, this was Rahal (pole winner) and Helio; while for Race 2, this was RHR and Sato (pole winner).

Thequalifying groups are listed here, in Race 1 Group 1 went first, while Group 2 went first for Race 2. The final qualifying results for both races are already pre-sorted into their order based on the faster group taking the odd-numbered starting positions, and the slower group taking the even-numbered starting positions.TheChrisDRantsEdits15:39, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The confusion arose because there was no mention whatsoever in this article for the points for the winners of both qualifying groups at double headers race. We can't assume that our general readers know the IndyCar rule book by heart, so I've since added a clarification to the article.Tvx122:40, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the values inDriver standings list points earned in the table?

[edit]

I was expecting each cell in the standings to list points, but it's showing the position. Will(Talk -contribs)17:01, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No motorsport articles on Wikipedia do that. Even the various V8 Supercar articles which I could have sworn used to list the points per race, have been finishing position only since like 2012.🇮🇪TheChrisD {💬|✏️}20:02, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
