TheSwazian is a poorly defined geologicalstage inSouth Africa extending from about four to three billion years ago,[1] encompassing some of theHadean and much of theArchean on theGeologic time scale. Other scales[2] assign the Swazian to parts of thePaleoarchean andMesoarchean, 3.5 to 2.8 billion years ago. The Swazian is not recognized by theInternational Commission on Stratigraphy nor by theGeological Society of America, the two most widely accepted developers of internationalgeologic time scales.
