Alskog is a populated area, asocken (not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland.[3] It comprises the same area as theadministrative Alskog District, established on 1 January 2016.[4]

Geography

Alskog is situated in the central east part of Gotland.[5] ThemedievalAlskog Church is located in the socken.[6] As of 2019[update], Alskog Church belongs to Gardeparish, along with the churches inGarde,Etelhem,Lye andArdre.[7][8]

The threeLau Islets just off the coast are part of Alskog, despite being named after the neighboringLau socken.[9] On the north part of the Alskog coastline is the sheltered harbor of Svajdefishing village.[10]

History

TheGålerumgrave field in Alskog has over 200 stone settings, dating from theBronze Age to theIron Age. The grave field includes eightstone ships, fivecairns and apicture stone. The area is sometimes erroneously referred to asDigerrojr, a cairn inGarde, south of Alskog.[11]
