Stuart Alden Cook (born April 25, 1945) is anAmerican bass guitarist, best known for being a member of the rock bandCreedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), for which he is a member of theRock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Cook, along withDoug Clifford and brothersTom andJohn Fogerty, grew up inEl Cerrito, California, where all four attendedEl Cerrito High School.[2] Cook, Clifford and John Fogerty formed a band in high school which eventually becameCreedence Clearwater Revival after Tom joined.[3] Additionally, Cook attendedSan Jose State University alongside Doug Clifford.[4]
In the mid-1970s, following the breakup of CCR, Cook and Clifford joined theDon Harrison Band, which released two albums.
In 1979, Cook produced 15 songs byRoky Erickson and the Aliens, which were released in 1980 on two LPs with different running orders,The Evil One andI Think of Demons.
From 1986 to 1991, Cook was a member of the country bandSouthern Pacific. With Southern Pacific, Cook covered the Erickson song "It's a Cold Night for Alligators" for the tribute albumWhere the Pyramid Meets the Eye: A Tribute to Roky Erickson.[5]
Cook was inducted into theRock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.[6] Also in 1993, Cook auditioned for the role of the bassist inThe Rolling Stones after the departure ofBill Wyman.[7] Cook later reunited with Clifford, forming the bandCreedence Clearwater Revisited in 1995.
