InGreek mythology,Sthenelus (/ˈsθɛnələs,ˈstɛn-/;Ancient Greek: ΣθένελοςSthénelos, "strong one" or "forcer", derived fromsthenos "strength, might, force") was a name attributed to several different individuals:

• Sthenelus, son ofPerseus andAndromeda.^[1] He was the father ofEurystheus.
• Sthenelus, son ofCapaneus andEvadne.^[2] He fought withDiomedes in theIliad.
• Sthenelus, father ofCycnus and King ofLiguria.^[3]
• Sthenelus or Sthenelās, king ofArgos and son ofCrotopus, son ofAgenor, son ofTriopas.^[4] He was the father ofGelanor.^[5]
• Sthenelus, anEgyptian prince as one of the 50sons of KingAegyptus.^[6] His mother was aTyria and thus full brother ofClitus andChrysippus. In some accounts, he could be a son of Aegyptus either byEurryroe, daughter of theriver-godNilus,^[7] orIsaie, daughter of KingAgenor ofTyre.^[8] Clitus suffered the same fate as his other brothers, saveLynceus, when they were slain on their wedding night by their wives who obeyed the command of their father KingDanaus ofLibya. He married theDanaidSthenele, daughter of Danaus andMemphis.^[6]
• Sthenelus, son ofActor and a companion ofHeracles, whom he accompanied to the land of theAmazons to takeHippolyte's girdle.^[9]Ammianus Marcellinus wrote that Sthenelus was killed during the war with the Amazons.^[10]
• Sthenelus, son ofAndrogeos, and grandson ofMinos. DuringHeracles' journey to retrieve the belt ofHippolyte, while at the city ofParos two of his companions are murdered by sons ofMinos, enraging the hero. He kills the sons of Minos responsible for the act, and only ceases the destruction when he is offered to take two hostages, with him choosing Sthenelus, along with his brotherAlcaeus.^[11]
