Masud Rana Sheikh[1] (born 28 March 1979),[a] better known by thestage nameShakib Khan,[b] is a Bangladeshi actor, producer, businessman,[16]occasional singer, film organiser, andmedia personality who works inBengali films.[17] He is widely regarded as one of the most popular figures of all time in Bengali cinema with his career spanning about two decades and250 films.[18] Referred to in the media as "King Khan", Khan has been the propeller of the contemporary film industry,Dhallywood and is one of the highest paid actor in Bangladesh and West Bengal.[19][20][21] He did his debut in 1999 in action romanticAnanta Bhalobasha,[22][23]
Khan has earned numerous accolades in his long career, including fourNational Film Awards, eightMeril Prothom Alo Awards,[24] threeBachsas Awards and fiveCJFB Performance Awards. He won his firstNational Film Awards for Best Actor in 2010 for the filmBhalobaslei Ghor Bandha Jay Na. He was noted for his performance inAro Bhalobashbo Tomay (2015) andSwatta (2017), and won third and fourth National Film Award respectively.[25]
Shakib Khan was born on 28 March 1979 as Masud Rana Sheikh in Ragadhi,Muksudpur, Gopalganj, Bangladesh, his original residence.[26][1] His paternal grandfather was Mominuddin Sheikh. His father, government official Abdur Rauf Sheikh, was one of three sons of Mominuddin and his mother, Nurjahan, is a housewife. He is one of has a two sons of Abdur Rauf Sheikh and a he has a sister. He grew up as a teenager inNarayanganj due to his father's job.[27][1] His father's job required the family to relocate frequently from one city to another during his school years. He met film choreographer and actor Aziz Reza in 1995, and completed a dancing course under him.[28] He get an offer for film,Sobai To Shukhi Hote Chay directed by Aftab Khan Tulu and got the role due to a dispute of director with actorShakil Khan.[28][29] He then played as a lead actor in his debut withAnanta Bhalobasha (1999) directed bySohanur Rahman Sohan for a fee of৳5,000.[30][31]
After the news of director Sohanur Rahman Sohan's death in 2023, Shakib Khan said in an interview withThe Daily Star that his stage name "Shakib Khan" was given by him.[32]
Khan first acted in the filmSobaito Sukhi Hote Chay, although his debut film wasAnanta Bhalobasha in 1999. The following year he acted inSobai to Sukhi Hote Chay, which marked as his first appearance on-camera.[33] Following its release, he got a chance opposite the then top actressShabnur in theIspahani Arif Jahan's action melodramaGolam (2000). In 2003, he starred inSahoshi Manush Chai,Praner Manush,Kkhmotar Dapot andSobar Upore Prem. The filmSahoshi Manush Chai directed byMuhammad Hannan, which was highly acclaimed by the critics and audience and won theNational Film Awards in two categories.[79]
In 2004, he starred inNoyon Bhora Jol,Ajker Somaj,Bostir Rani Suriya,Rukhe Darao andNoshto. On Eid al-Fitr three of his films were released among them Monwar Hossain Khokon'sbiographicalcrime thriller filmKhuni Shikder. The film is based on the biography of the Bangladeshi notorious murdererErshad Sikder.[80] In which he played as Shahjahan Shikder, who became a psycho after the death of his mother and then started killing one after another and subsequently he became the country's top terrorist and serial killer.[81] Although the film has been criticised at various times for its obscenity, but also has been widely acclaimed as one of the best performances of his career.[82][83] Then two of his films Mustafizur Rahman Babu'sJaat Shotru andMontazur Rahman Akbar's lady action based filmBostir Rani Suriya were released simultaneously.[84] In 2005, theBangladesh Film Censor Board permanently revoked hisBostir Rani Suriya's license and banned its screening throughout Bangladesh.[85] Although, the film was a commercial success and declared as a super hit at the box office.[86][87] Action-romantic filmNoshto directed by Shahin-Sumon duo, which was the first collaboration between Khan with director.[88]
In 2005, he acted inDurdhorsho.[89] His next project was released in April, which was the action dramaBad Son.[90] His third project release in May which was the action-dramaTop Leader.[91] His next was the action-dramaNogno Hamla which was released in June of that year.[92] Then on 1 July, two of his films,Nikhoj Songbad andAmar Shopno Tumi released simultaneously.[93][94] Then he starred inCity Terror directed by MA Rahim, where he first time performed with veteran actorManna.[95] In August two of his films were release, where he played oppositePurnima inShuva directed byChashi Nazrul Islam, based on the short storyShuva by BiswakabiRabindranath Tagore.[96] The film received highly positive reviews from critics as well as his performance.[97][98] For the film he was nominated in the Lux-Channel I Performance Awards for Best Film Actor in both of people choice and the critics choice category in 2007.[99] The film added a new dimension to Khan's image as a commercial film star.[100] And second one isDui Number opposite Neha, under the direction of Shahin-Sumon, in their third collaboration.[101] He also starred withRiaz andPurnima in the film ofBadha under the same direction, in their fourth collaboration.[102] His last release of the year wasLalu Kosai, directed byShahadat Hossain Liton, oppositeSahara.[103]
In 2006 thirteen of his films were released and all of the films were commercially success at the box office and as well as become best-selling films of the year.[100] As a result of this success, his salary increased from three lakhs to six-seven lakhs.[104] In the beginning of the year he performed in theDilip Biswas's action-dramaMayer Morjada, which features anensemble cast that includesManna,Moushumi,Shabnur,Babita,Sohel Rana andHumayun Faridi.[105] His next release was Shahin-Sumon's action basedHotline, in their fifth collaboration, oppositeRatna Kabir Sweety.[106] Then he starred inHasibul Islam Mizan's romance filmJonmo, in their second collaboration, oppositeShabnur andJona.[107] In May his twice release, in the film FI Manik's action-dramaKoti Takar Kabin, his ex-wifeApu Biswas first time performed opposite him, which was also an ensemble cast including thatRazzak,Farooque,Monowar Hossain Dipjol,Shuchorita,Misha Sawdagor andSadek Bachchu. The film was a commercial success and first ever pairing of Khan-Biswas gained massive popularity as a duo.[108] His second release of this month wasShafi-Iqbal's action filmSaat Khoon Maaf withAmin Khan and Nodi.[109] His sixth release of the year was FI Manik's family drama basedPitar Ason opposite Apu Biswas andNipun Akter (in her debut), which was also ensemble cast starred with Amin Khan, Razzak, Shuchorita,Ali Raj,Kazi Hayat and Monowar Hossain Dipjol. The film has been selected for preservation at theBangladesh Film Archive.[110] In August, three of his films were released in succession. They're Azadi Hasanat Firoz's folk fantasyRosher Baidani oppositeShabnur,[111]Badiul Alam Khokon's action filmHingsro Manab opposite Nira[112] and FI Manik's family dramaChachchu, opposite Apu Biswas andPrarthana Fardin Dighi. It was a commercial success at the box office and Dighi gained widespread popularity.[113][114] In October, his twice release, they're Badiul Alam Khokon's action filmNashpap Koyedi opposite Shaila[115] andUttam Akash's romance filmDhakaiya Pola Barishailla Maiya opposite Shabnur, which was made in the regional languages withDhakaiya andBarishailla [bn].[116] In November, he starredShahadat Hossain Liton's in romantic-actionNoshto Chhatra withSahara andMisha Sawdagor.[117] Then his last release of the year was collaboration with FI Manik in action dramaDadima [bn],[118] which marked his 100th film.[119]

All of his films exceptKopal have been commercially successful and become super-hit at the box office as like previous year.[120] In the beginning of the year, he starred in Shahin-Sumon action projectJomoj, in their sixth collaboration, oppositeSadika Parvin Popy, where Khan played dual role for the first time, which performed average at box office.[120][121] In July his twice film release, Jakir Hossain Raju's dramaShamir Songsar with Apu Biswas, Sohel Rana and Bobita.[122] andAzizur Rahman's comedy basedDoctor Bari features an ensemble cast includingJona,Shabnaz andATM Shamsuzzaman.[123] Then he starred in P.A. Kajal's drama filmAmar Praner Swami. The film is the only bumper hit at the box office and became the highest grossing Bangladeshi film of 2007. In 2008, Khan also starred in 16 films, which is the third highest number of release in a calendar year in his career.[135] His first release was Wazed Ali Bablu's action projectRajdhanir Raja oppositeSabrina Sultana Keya.[136][137] His next release was Mohammad Hannan's romance basedTip Tip Brishti oppositeShabnur.[138] In April, he starred in three films, respectively they're, Wakil Ahmed's romantic actionBhalobashar Dushman withManna andShabnur,[139] Shahin-Sumon's romantic melodramaSontan Amar Ohongkar opposite Apu Biswas andRatna Kabir Sweety[140] andShahadat Hossain Liton's romance filmTumi Shopno Tumi Shadhona, also opposite Apu Biswas.[141] Then in May, he starred withNayak Raj Razzak andDilara Hanif Purnima in FI Manik's romanceBiyer Prostab.[142] His next project wasBadiul Alam Khokon's romantic actionPriya Amar Priya, in which he played as a college student with careless attitude oppositeSahara. I'm local here... lo..ccal) were popular with audiences. After the release of the film, Khan gained widespread fame shortly and gained a large number of fan following. Not only that, Sahara also became an overnight star by acting opposite Khan. Also Khan's remuneration increased to 20 times.[100] He won numerous awards includingMeril Prothom Alo Awards, Lux-Channel I Performance Awards and CJFB Performance Awards for Best Actor. The film all-time blockbuster at the box office with grossed৳150 million at the box office, which is thesecond-highest grossing in the history of Bangladeshi cinema.[143][144] On 2 October, his five films were released on the same day, respectively they are, FI Manik's romantic dramaAmader Choto Saheb opposite Apu Biswas andSahara, romanceJodi Bou Saajo Go, which also directed by FI Manik, earned himBachsas Awards for Best Actor[145][146] Jakir Hossain Raju's romanceMone Prane Acho Tumi, which performed well and become bumper-hit at the box office,[147] another romance projectHridoy Amar Naam directed by Monowar Khokon with his first actressErin Zaman, which is their second collaboration[148] and P.A. Kajal's romantic melodramaEk Takar Bou with Nayak Raj Razzak, Shabnur andRumana Khan. The film commercially success at the box office and won several accolades, including twiceNational Film Awards, aMeril-Prothom Alo Awards and hisDhallywood Film and Music Awards as Best Actor.[149][150][151][152] In the last month of the year, four of his films were released simultaneously. In 2009, his 17 films were released of this year as well, which is the highest number of his career.[157] His first release of the year was Shahadat Hossain Liton's melodramaMiah Barir Chakar withApu Biswas,Nayak Raj Razzak andHumayun Faridi.[158] His next release was Shahin-Sumon's romantic actionJonmo Tomar Jonno opposite Apu Biswas.[159] His next collaboration with Shah Mohammad Sangram in romanceBolbo Kotha Bashor Ghore withShabnur andSahara.[160] The film received positive reviews from critics and performed well at the box office and became one of the successful film of 2009. Shabnur won the Best Actress award at the12th Meril-Prothom Alo Awards for her performance in this film, while Khan andKanak Chapa also received nominations in two categories.[161][162] In June, his release twice, they are Shahin-Sumon's romance comedyBiye Bari withRumana Khan and Nayak Raj Razzak[163] andM B Manik's actionPrem Koyedi with Sahara.[164] In July also release twice, they are, Shahin-Sumon's melodramaMon Jekhane Hridoy Sekhane with Apu Biswas,Nirab Hossain andRatna Kabir Sweety.[165] and PA Kajal's romanceSwami Strir Wada with Shabnur and Romana Khan. It was for the first time that Indian actressSwastika Mukherjee was seen opposite him. The film was released inWest Bengal, India the following year as the title ofAmar Bhai Amar Bon. Almost seven years later, on 6 March 2017, the film was released in Hindi asHello Zindagi under the banner of Angel Digital.[174][175][176] Uttam Akash's romanceBhalobasha Dibi Kina Bol,[177] Shahin-Sumon's action thrillerMone Boro Koshto with Apu Biswas, Sabrina Sultana Keya and Nrab Hossain andJakir Hossain Raju's ninth project and fourth collaboration romanceAmar Praner Priya oppositeBidya Sinha Saha Mim, which performed well at the box-office and became of the successful film in 2009 in Bangladesh, primarily noted for its soundtrack & choreography. The film all the song were popular and became hit with audience as well song "Ki Jadu Korecho Bolona" was on the hit song listed for a year.[178] It won a National Film Awards and nominated numerous categories inMeril Prothom Alo Awards including his Best Actor nomination as well as earned him CJFB Performance Awards.[150]
The following year, in 2010 he starred inBolona Tumi Amar,Prem Mane Naa Badha,Top Hero,Takar Cheye Prem Boro,Jibon Moroner Saathi,Preme Porechi,Chehara: Vondo–2,Premik Purush,Jibon Moroner Saathi directed byShahadat Hossain Liton andHay Prem Hay Bhalobasha. He played the role of Surjo, an independent young man in the romantic revenge filmBhalobaslei Ghor Bandha Jay Na directed byJakir Hossain Raju oppositeApu Biswas andRumana Khan. The film was highly successful, critically and commercially and become the second highest-grossing film of 2010 afterNumber One Shakib Khan. It won numerous accolades including sevenNational Film Awards, fiveBachsas Awards and twoMeril Prothom Alo Awards as well as a nomination and Khan was awardedMeril Prothom Alo Awards andNational Film Awards for the first time.[179][180] In this year in Eid-al Fitr, he also starred inNumber One Shakib Khan,Chachchu Amar Chachchu andNissash Amar Tumi. The filmNumber One Shakib Khan directed byBadiul Alam Khokon, gained commercially success at the box office and widespread popularity.[178][181] He won numerous accolades for the film including Binodon Bichitra Awards 2010, Uro-CJFB Performance Awards 2010, Walton Boishakhi Star Awards 2011 and Babisas Awards 2010. InChachchu Amar Chachchu directed by PA Kajal played as Chachchu (trans. In Eid al-fitr of the year, he starred inTiger Number One directed by Shahin-Sumon and has played for the first time as negative role.[188] According to Orchi Othondrila, mainstream Bangladeshi films are "always based on a central hero while female characters are there as objects to complement [the] hero's actions." She wrote that, as with many other Shakib Khan film titles, the titleTiger Number One implies "that the stories are solely depended on the hero who is the centre of the actions."[189]Boss Number One directed by Mohammad Hossain andMatir Thikana directed by Shah Alam Kiran won theNational Film Awards and theMeril Prothom Alo Awards in various categories through starring by him. However, the rejection of this marriage by his own family sparks his descent into alcoholism, ultimately leading to his emotional deterioration and him seeking refuge with a courtesan,Chandramukhi, played byMoushumi. He sung a song for the second time in the film as a playback singer titled "O Priyo Ami Tumar Hote Chai". The film opened to major critical success and earned numerous accolades. It received sixMeril Prothom Alo Awards nominations, with Khan winning Best Actor for his portrait as Joy Shikder and Ahsan winning Best Actress.[209] The film had the longest theatrical run in 2013, completing over 100 days at the box office.[210] The film was a blockbuster at the box office and becoming one of the highest-grossing film of 2013. The film remade of 2006Boopathy Pandian's comedy-drama filmThiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam. Abdullah Al Amin (Rubel) ofThe Daily Star noted that "Shakib Khan has done yet another great job in upholding his character in the movie. Hero the Superstar is all about the Hero himself, Shakib Khan. He starred inAro Bhalobashbo Tomay directed bySA Haque Alik oppositePori Moni and won theNational Film Awards for Best Actor for thethird time in his career for his role in the film as himself.[236] It received positive reviews from critics, and considering its budget the film had commercial success at the box office.[237] His next project FI Manik'sDui Prithibi was released beforeEid al-Fitr of this year. In Eid al-Fitr of the year, he starred in Shahin Sumon's projectLove Marriage. The film open to a good at box office and received positive reviews from and his performance, especially his Dakaiya accent is highly praised by the critics. Mohaiminul Islam ofThe Daily Star noted that, "The movie is a solid source of entertainment with Shakib Khan adorned in "traditional" white Punjabi, lungi and his flawless Dhakaiya accent. His talent as an actor shines through, despite the absurdity of some sequences like using a helicopter to travel to Shyamoli from Old Dhaka."[238]Tanvir Tareq also noted onThe Daily Ittefaq "Especially after the entry of Shakib Khan, the way in which he has been performing impeccably in pure Dhakaiya accent, his performance is to be commended."[239] His next project romantic action filmRajababu: The Power directed byBadiul Alam Khokon was released inEid al-Adha. Where he played as titular role oppositeApu Biswas andBobby. The film was released in more than 152 theaters, which was a record number for any Bangladeshi film at that time. At the beginning of 2016, he collaborate withUttam Akash in comedyRaja 420, in which he played acon artist.[241][242] In April the same year, he starred inPurno Doirgho Prem Kahini 2 playing the role of a cricketer.[243] Also in 2016, three of his films released simultaneously,Shikari,Mental andSamraat: The King Is Here. He won theMeril Prothom Alo Awards and the Tele Cine Awards for Best Actor through starring by film.[244][245] His next project is psychological thriller filmMental directed byShamim Ahamed Roni starringNusrat Imrose Tisha first time opposite him,Achol andSabrina Porshi also seen with his. Its story is loosely inspired from theChristopher Nolan's filmMemento. Although the film is criticised for various reasons.[246] The film was later dubbed inHindi, which was unveiled on theBongo India YouTube channel in mid-August 2021.[247] His next project wasMohammad Mostafa Kamal Raz's crime thrillerSamraat: The King Is Here, in which he played a leader of Bangladeshi organised crime syndicate operating from Malaysia,[248] where he performed withApu Biswas, which is their 72nd film as duo,[249]Misha Sawdagor and Indian actorIndraneil Sengupta.[250] On the same year in Eid al-Adha, he starred in two films. One of which isShamim Ahamed Roni's action filmBossgiri oppositeShabnom Bubly, which is her debut film.Zahid Akbar ofThe Daily Star praised his performance, specifically hisDhakaiya accent. He noted, "There were some highlights in the film such as Shakib Khan's delivery of the Dhakaiya accent, which was fairly entertaining. Shakib Khan's presence is the only saving grace in the entire film."[251] The film won three awards in the19th Meril Prothom Alo Awards. Another was Raju Chowdhury's action crime filmShooter. The film was a commercial success at the box office, placed among the top 10 commercially successful films of 2016[252][253] but received negative reviews from critics for its poor screenplay but praised his performance. Film directorMostafizur Rahman Manik noted onBangla Tribune that, "Shakib Khan is as good as ever in terms of acting".[254] In December of the same year, he starred inDhumketu directed by Shafique Hasan oppositePori Moni.Zahid Akbar has criticized his costume and hairstyles in the film. He noted, "Shakib Khan was not too bad. However, it was clear that he was shooting for a long time. There was no continuity in costume and haircut. In the beginning of 2017, he starred inSwatta. The film directed byHashibur Reza Kallol based on the story of fictionist Sohani Hossain'sMaa (meaning Mother) and for the first time Indian actressPaoli Dam played opposite him. His performance in the film caught the attention of the audience of all the classes, the film also success at the box office. AtRisingbd.com, Ruhul Amin appreciated that it was a good idea to start a story with a mainstream hero. He noted, "Sabuj means that Shakib Khan also made one of the best performances of his acting career in Swatta". However, he criticized Khan's early performance in the film.[256] It won numerous accolades including fiveNational Film Awards at the42nd Bangladesh National Film Awards and Khan won theNational Film Awards asBest Actor for the fourth time by playing as Sabuj, who is a drug-addicted pervert young son of rich man. On the same year in Eid al-FitrNabab andRajneeti released starring by him.Indo-Bangladesh joint productionNabab directed byJoydeep Mukherjee and for the first time Indian actressSubhashree Ganguly played opposite him. The film released in 128 theatres,[257] and become the highest-grossing films of 2017 and become one of the highest grossing Bangladeshi and West Bengal film of all time.[258][259] His energetic performance and re-emergence in the film was praised by both critics and audiences.[260][261] Film criticZahid Akbar noted onThe Daily Star, "From the beginning of the film to the end, Shakib has tried to pour all his talent. He was the Nawab throughout the whole story".[262] His dialogue and the use of the phrase of the film "সন্ত্রাসের কোনো জাত নেই, দেশ নেই, ধর্ম নেই, ওদের পরিচয় একটাই, ওরা সন্ত্রাসবাদী।" (trans. There is no caste of terrorism, no country, no religion, their only identity is that they are terrorists.) were very popular with audiences. On the other,Rajneeti directed by Bulbul Biswas, after a long year he is seen oppositeApu Biswas.[263] The film praised by the critics and the audience. Rayan Khan, the film critic of theBangla Tribune, praised the film's direction, screenplay and performances by lead artists. However, he criticised Shakib Khan's two looks in the same film. He noted, "From the beginning to the end of the film he is unrivalled in acting. His eye expression is incomparable. The film is co-produced byEskay Movies with Shapla Media of Bangladesh.[266][267] Then in April he starred in romantic comedy filmChalbaaz directed byJoydeep Mukherjee, which is the remake of 2015's Telugu language action comedy-drama filmSubramanyam for Sale starring bySai Dharam Tej andRegina Cassandra. It was first Indian solo production film starring by him, which was produced by Indian production companyEskay Movies.[268]Subhashree Ganguly starred opposite him in the film, where he is seen with actors likeRajatava Dutta,Kharaj Mukherjee,Kazi Hayat andAshish Vidyarthi. It received positive reviews from critics after its release. Anindo Mamun praised Shakib Khan's performance, especially his comedy. Mamun noted onJugantor that, "Shakib Khan also tried to give the best. His comedy acting was also great. In return he is getting applause from the audience".[269] Three of his films were released on Eid al-Fitr of this year, in Abdul Mannan's comedy-dramaPanku Jamai, he played a stylish Son-in-law oppositeApu Biswas, which is their final collaboration as a duo.[270] The film received negative reviews from critics, but earned praised for his performance. National award-winning directorChatku Ahmed described to him as "the soul of Bangladesh cinema" for the performance in the film.[271] InUttam Akash's regional-comedyChittagainga Powa Noakhailla Maiya, he played as independent protestor oppositeShobnom Bubly, which was made in the regional languages ofChittagong andNoakhali. Then he starred in directorAshiqur Rahman's fifth project action-crime filmSuper Hero. He played as Iqbal Mahmud Sami, a special force officer. The film created many controversy for various reasons, from filming to release.[272] His next venture is Indian action comedy-drama filmBhaijaan Elo Re, which was also directed byJoydeep Mukherjee. He has played dual roles oppositeSrabanti Chatterjee andPayal Sarkar in the film.[273] On the same year in Eid-ul-Adha, he starred inCaptain Khan directed byWajed Ali Sumon as the titular role. The film remake of Tamil language action thriller filmAnjaan starring bySuriya andSamantha Ruth Prabhu.[274][275] At the end of the year, he starred in Indian supernatural thriller filmNaqaab ofShree Venkatesh Films, whice is directed byRajiv Kumar Biswas. Where he played dual roles oppositeNusrat Jahan andSayantika Banerjee.[276]
In Eid al-Fitr of 2019, he starred inPassword andNolok.[277] The filmPassword was released in highest number of theaters of the year. It was commercially success in spite of various criticisms, including accusations of plagiarism, theft of song lyrics, not giving time to other film promote. The film grossed৳110 million on its fourth day at the box office, which is thefourth-highest grossing in the history of Bangladeshi cinema[278] and become highest-grossing film of the year.[279] The film won the highest number of awards including Best Popular Actor in the first Bharat-Bangladesh Film Awards held in Bangladesh.[280] Romanticcomedy-drama filmNolok directed by Sakib Sonnet and Team.[e] He played as Shaon Talukder oppositeBobby. The film won in a category award at the Bharat-Bangladesh Film Awards and nominated in several categories.[286] On the same year inEid al-Adha he starred inJakir Hossain Raju's 20th projectMoner Moto Manush Pailam Naa, which was the seventh collaboration between Jakir Hossain Raju and him.[287] In which he played as Shadhin, an independent lawyer, he played the role for the second time in his career. Earlier, he played Advocate Murad as a lawyer inHumkir Mukhe (হুমকির মুখে) directed by Aziz Ahmed Babul opposite actressEka in 2003.[288] The film performed average at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics upon release but Khan's performance in the film was highly praised by critics. Rumman Rashid Khan on Bangla Movie Database wrote that, he has done justice to his name. Rumman noted, "Shakib Khan has been able to do justice to his name in the film. Not with the body, he has performed in several scenes of the film with his eye expression. Shakib Khan's performance while talking to his parents about flashbacks has made me repeatedly wondered that why he is the best."[289] It won severalNational Film Awards at the44th National Film Awards including Jakir Hossain Raju'sBest Dialogue Award.[290]
In 2020, he starred inBir andShahenshah. In theKazi Hayat's fiftieth directorial socio-politicalBir, he played a defiant youth, who works as a professional assassin for a politician. The film marks the first collaboration between Khan andKazi Hayat.[291] The film is produced by himself, which is his third production, he has previously produced two films titledHero: The Superstar (2014) andPassword (2019).[292] The film story, dialogue and Khan's performance praised by the critics.Zahid Akbar noted onThe Daily Star, "The audience has seen Bir to see Shakib Khan's performance. Throughout the film he has acted in heroic".[293] The film wonNational Film Awards twice at the45th National Film Awards. He played titular role in theShamim Ahamed Roni's fifth directorial venture action-masalaShahenshah, whereNusraat Faria and Rodela Jannat played for the first time opposite him.[294] Despite having set the release date several times, later the film was criticised for not releasing.[295] The feature was theatrically released in Bangladesh amid theCOVID-19 pandemic, which affected its commercial performance due to the closing of the cinemas.[296][297][298][299] His next venture isAnonno Mamun's eighth directorial projectlegal dramaNabab LLB,[f] which is the first collaboration between director, opposite second collaboration betweenMahiya Mahi and first betweenOrchita Sporshia. Aiming at raising social awareness,Nabab LLB touches upon themes such as the social exclusion of rape victims, the struggles and reactions of their family members, and the social stigmas that arise in a woman's life after such an unfortunate incident.[302] The project began on 30 August 2020, after seven months from proposed date due toCOVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. It was released on theOver-the-top media service iTheater due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, and became the firstDhallywood film to be released on any OTT service.[303]

In 2021, several of his films were scheduled to release but were postponed indefinitely due toCOVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh.
In Eid al-fitr of 2022, hisBidrohi andGolui were released.[304][305] For the film Khan paid-up with a remuneration৳60 lakh, which made him the highest paid actor in the history of Bangladeshi films.[g] He also performed as the character Dholi in the filmGolui.[309]
Khan started 2023 by appearing inLeader where he performed as an independent youth.[310][311] In the middle of the year he was in the tragic romancePriyotoma, in which he played a love failure. Filmmaker and authorSadat Hossain praised his performance, writing that Khan has shown his full potential with ultimate skill.[312]
Khan was part of the film Agun, but shooting was stopped in 2019.[313] He was also part of the filmAntaratma, which was postponed in 2021.[314][315]
Shakib Khan elected the biennial election for the first time of Bangladesh Film Artists Association in 2011 and served as its president.[316][317] Then he was re-elected in the 2015 election beating veteran actorAhmed Sharif.[318][319][320] It was the second time in a row that Khan has earned the position of the president in the association. Khan quoted that, "I am really happy to be reelected as the position has given me the opportunity to serve film artistes again."[321]
On 10 February 2014 Khan launched his own production company SK Films and producedHero: The Superstar.[4] After almost 5 years, the actor returned to produce in 2019 with the filmPassword under the banner of his own production company.[322] Which is his second produced film in terms of release. Earlier in 2018, he started producing a film titledPriyotoma directed by Himel Ashraf.[323] However, subsequently the film was released under Arshad Adnan-production.[324] As of February 2020, he has produced three films. Shakib Khan has also performed on many stages as well as acting. On 24 February 2011, on the occasion of the2011 Cricket World Cup he performed on stage at the Tri-nation Big Show with the participation of artists from the three host countries India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.[328][329] On 14 November 2019, he performed on stage at the inaugural ceremony of2019 T10 League at theSheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium inAbu Dhabi, the capital of theUnited Arab Emirates, hosted by Indian production and distribution companyRed Chillies Entertainment.[330][331] Where he has to face criticism for speaking inHindi language.[332][333][334] On 11 December 2019, he performed the stage at the West Trimohoni Jhanjhara Club inMurshidabad, West Bengal, India, at a variety show called Srabanti and Shakib Khan Night organised to help distressed students and orphans, where popular Indian actressSrabanti Chatterjee performed on the stage with him.[335][336][337][338] On 1 February 2020, he performed the stage at the Golden Jubilee celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary ofCharfasson Govt. Khan first performed in an advertisement for Asian Duplex City and then for energy drink Power.[346] In 2018, he performed in an advertisement ofBanglalink, a mobile SIM service provider in Bangladesh, titledBeshi Beshi Khushi Kushi.[347] In 2019, he was seen in this commercial for SMC Orsaline N.[348] In April 2021, he done another commercial with the same company.[349] In the early September 2021, he participated in a TV commercials forBerger Paints Bangladesh Limited with actress Nusraat Faria.[350][351]
On 28 March 2018, Shakib Khan opened two YouTube channels Shakib Khan Official and his production house SK Films.[6] As of 2023, his personal YouTube channel "Shakib Khan Official" has over one hundred thousand subscribers and SK Films has more than one million subscribers.[352]
Shakib Khan is widely regarded as one of the most popular and influential actors in Bengali cinema. He is often referred to as "King Khan" and "King of Dhallywood" also referred as "Number One Shakib Khan" (initialism as No1SK) (in reference to his 2010 filmNumber One Shakib Khan).[h] Khan has prolific career spanning over two decades, during which he has appeared in more than247 films[i] and described as one of the most successful actors in Bangladesh. Most of his films were commercially and critically successful.[359] Khan is one of the most recognizable star of the present era ofBangladeshi film industry. As one of the most dominant actors in the Bangladeshi movie scene during the 2000s, 2010s and early 2020s, Khan is widely considered as one of the greatest and influential actors in the history ofBangladeshi cinema. He is critically acclaimed as one of the finest actors of Bangladesh.[360][361][362] He is often compared to global superstars such asShah Rukh Khan andTom Cruise for his mass popularity in Bangladesh.[363][364][365]
In 2013, Khan became thebrand ambassador of Bangladesh's energy drink Pran Power Energy Drink. It is the first time Khan has made his debut as an ambassador.[366][367] Then, in the same year, he became the brand ambassador of Asian Duplex Town, a housing project of Asian Town Development Limited. Where he participated in its various promotional activities, including commercials, for one year.[368][369] In March 2019, he was appointed as the brand ambassador of SMC Orsaline-N. For the next two years, he will participate in various campaigns, engagement sessions and other promotional activities on behalf of Berger Paints Bangladesh.[372][373] In 2022, he has been appointed as the Bangladesh Outreach Brand Ambassador of theNorth American Bengali Conference (NABC), which is considered to be the biggest gathering ofBengali speakers abroad. He is the first and only brand ambassador in the 42-year history of this conference.[374][375][376]
Khan was ranked for the first time as a Bangladeshi in the list of top 20 stars of theCalcutta Times Most Desirable Man in the 2019 edition by the Indian mediaThe Times of India's supplementCalcutta Times.[377][378] TheCalcutta Times ranked him 18th out of the top 20 stars, considering the business, audience demand and co-stars of the films released in India starring by him in 2018.[j][380][381] He is among the most popular celebrities in Bangladesh. Khan's popularity has been recorded by both Google and YouTube as the most-searched-and-viewed actor several times.[382][383][384] Also television channels hold film festivals every year on Eid with his films as Shakib Khan Films Festival.[385][386]
In 2006, Shakib Khan metApu Biswas while costarring inKoti Takar Kabin (2006). He allegedly proposed to her in 2008 after completing the movieKotha Dao Sathi Hobe.[387][388] They were apparently married in a private wedding ceremony on 18 April 2008 at his Gulshan residence in Dhaka.[389] However, the marriage was kept secret from the media and general public. In 2017, Apu Biswas informed in an interview onNews24 that they were married.[390] The couple has a son named Abraham Khan Joy, who was born on 27 September 2016 in a clinic inKolkata, India.[391][392]
On 22 November 2017, Shakib Khan filed for divorce[393][394] and the couple got divorced on 22 February 2018.[395][396] Biswas had converted toIslam after her marriage with Khan and took the name Apu Islam Khan,[397][398][399][400] but she reportedly reverted toHinduism after their divorce.[401]
Shakib Khan andShobnom Bubly were rumored to be dating while shooting for the filmBossgiri in 2016.[402] There were strong rumours that they are married but the news was unconfirmed.[403] On 26 September 2022, Bubly posted photos on Facebook which showed her with ababy bump. He has also done some philanthropic work, such as supporting theRana Plaza cause. Khan also owns a restaurant chain atJamuna Future Park in Dhaka named Red Chicken.[408] He has been one of the country's highest taxpayers for three consecutive years in 2016–17, 2018–19 and 2019–20.[409][410][411][412] In the mid of 2019, Khan installed digital machine in 200 theaters across the country. The work of installing these under the name of SK Big Screen started fromEid al-Adha in 2019.[413][414] The decision also created some controversy withJaaz Multimedia, one of the country's leading production companies.[415][416]

Shakib Khan was supposed to participate in theEleventh Parliamentary Election of Bangladesh in 2018.[427][428] On 10 November 2018, he said that he would buy the nomination papers forBangladesh Awami League on 11 November.[429][430] However, he changed his mind that night and stated that, he was not voting. He stated that, "It is not right for mine to leave cinema and be busy with anything else right now. It is possible to serve the country through cinema. So I decided not to take part in the election after discussing with my close ones."[431][432][433] He praised prime ministerSheikh Hasina in that one minute video message.[434] Khan referred to her as a Loving Mother and a Symbol of Development.[435]
Shakib Khan faced the first major illness in 2008, at that time he had to go toThailand for treatment. He consults a physician regularly.[436] On 15 May 2015, Khan felt physically ill due to abdominal pain caused by acidity.[437] He was taken to LabAid Hospital again on 25 May. Later, as his physical condition deteriorated he left for Singapore on 26 May 2015 for advanced treatment.[438][439] Khan returned toDhaka on 31 May 2015, after receiving treatment atMount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.[440][441] On 13 April 2017, Khan fell ill with chest and neck pain and was admitted to LabAid Hospital in Dhaka for treatment.[442][443] In January 2018, he was admitted to the emergency department ofSydney Hospital in Australia due to a high fever during the filming of theSuper Hero and received treatment for two days.[444][445][446][447] On 28 December 2019, he was re-admitted to Labaid Hospital inDhaka due to cold fever and gastric problems during the filming ofBir.[448][449]
In 2015, films by Shakib Khan were banned from being screened by Bangladesh Motion Picture Exhibitors Association after he led protests against the screening of aBollywood film,Wanted in Bangladesh. which was opened in cinemas on 23 January 2015 afterBangladesh Film Censor Board cleared its nationwide release, following a 50-year ban onHindi-language films.[450]
On 10 April 2017, actressApu Biswas revealed her secret marriage with Khan and their children at live show onNews24, responding to which he made comment upon the industry leading to his ban byBangladesh Film Directors Association.[390] In a response which, he stated the move as a conspiracy against him.[451] Although, the organization faced criticism over the controversial decision.[452][453] Despite his apology, he was indefinitely ban by 12 organizations, including Bangladesh Film Directors' Association and the ban was lifted from him on 1 May 2017.[454][455]
In 2017, Shakib Khan was sued with fraud and defamation of৳5 million for using the personal mobile number of a man named Ijazul Mia of Habiganj, Bangladesh, in a dialogue for the filmRajneeti. The film's director Bulbul Biswas and producer Ashfaq Ahmed were also charged in the same case. Autorickshaw driver Ijazul Mia filed the case in Habiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court inHabiganj on 29 October 2016.
Ijazul Mia mentioned in the charge sheet of the case that, actress Apu Biswas said while giving a dialogue in a sequence of the film Rajneeti (26 minutes and 12 seconds of the film), 'I will not let go of my dream prince again and again.' In reply actor Shakib Khan said, 'I will never leave you, my princess.' Apu Biswas said again, 'How do you know that my Facebook ID is "Rajkumari"?' In reply Shakib Khan said, 'As you know, my mobile number is....'.[456][457][458][459][460][461][462]
Regarding the case Khan stated, "As an artist I just delivered my dialogue. It is not my responsibility to decide whose mobile phone number it is, whether the number is correct or not. It does not come under my jurisdiction. It's the matter of the film's producer, director and scriptwriter. It turns on them. If any other hero in my place had delivered the dialogue, he had nothing to do."[463]
On 27 May 2019, Shakib Khan claimed a doctorate in film at the founding anniversary of a fashion house called Prem's Collection as the part of promotion of the filmPassword and said he can make international quality films in the Sundarbans as well.[464] The video of his remarks spread on social media, sparking widespread discussion and criticism.[465][466] Many criticized him and made various humorous comments, statuses and videos. Khan said about his comments, "Many did not understand my comments, the way I actually wanted to explain. I mean, while I love making films, I also have a lot of experience. In that sense I have called myself a doctorate. Despite thousands of adversities, I am ready to make films. I meant it."[467]
On the other hand, the director of the filmMalek Afsari said about Khan's statements that, "The Sundarbans is a jungle, there are no five star hotels. As long as I stay, I have to trouble. This is what he meant that, even if leave me in the Sundarbans, I can make international quality films."[468]
On 11 September 2019, film production company Shapla Media sent a legal notice to Khan for not completing the work of a film titledEktu Prem Dharkar (released asBidrohi) on time.[469][470][471] In addition to sending the notice to Khan, a copy was also sent to the Ministry of Information, the Secretariat and the private secretary to the Prime Minister, Bangladesh Film Producers, Distributors, Directors and Artists associations.[472][473]
Khan toldThe Daily Star about the allegations, "I will definitely finish the rest of the work on the film. I also set aside a few days for this. I don't have received any complaint. I don't want to say more anything about this."[474]
On 18 November 2019, mobile court ofRAJUK finned him৳1 million with one year imprisonment for non-payment for illegally constructing an extended part of his house inNiketan, Gulshan, Dhaka without following the design approved by theRajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK).[475]
On 29 June 2020, Dilruba Khan filed a complaint on him and mobile service providerRobi Axiata Limited for copyrighting the song "Pagol Mon [bn]" in the filmPassword which was released in 2019.[476][477] Earlier on 28 June, Dilruba Khan had lodged a written complaint against Khan in the Cyber Crime Unit ofDhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) demanding৳100 million (US$820,000) in compensation.[478][479][480]
On 15 March 2023, Rahmat Ullah, one of the producers of the filmOperation Agneepath, accused Shakib Khan of raping another female co-producer of the film.[481][482] Producer Rahmat Ullah alleged that Shakib Khan raped a female co-producer of the film in Sydney in 2016. In 2018, when he went back to Australia, the police arrested him on that charge.[483] Producer Rahmat Ullah filed a written complaint against him to theBangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association,Bangladesh Film Directors Association, Bangladesh Film Artists Association and Bangladesh Film Cameramen Association.[483] In that charge sheet he mentioned, "He (Shakib Khan) raped one of our female co-producers. The victim herself also a Bangladeshi origin. She also filled a written complaint against him to the Australian police. I was a witness to that criminal complaint. It is not possible to express in words the social disgrace and slander that she and her family suffered socially after this incident. At some point it becomes impossible for her and her family to survive while seeking justice for rape." He also mentioned in the charge sheet that he was arrested by the police on charges of rape when he went back to Australia again in 2018.[484][485]
Later, on late night of 18 March, he went to Gulshan police station to file a lawsuit against the producer, claiming the allegation as fake. However, the police did not accept the application of the lawsuit. Although, the police advised him to file the sued in court.[486][487][488][489] The next day, he filed a written complaint against producer Rahmat Ullah at the office of theDetective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.[490][491][492]
The next day on 20 March, Shakib Khan's Australian lawyer Upal Amin said in a video message that a woman was accused of raping Shakib Khan during the filming in 2016 in Australia. When she went to the police with this complaint, it was solved immediately at that time.[493][494][495] He further said, "He (Shakib Khan) never had an arrest warrant, no lawsuit, he had never been arrested. Then there is no question of his escape from Australia."[496][497] In another video message on 22 March, lawyer Upal Amin revealed a confirmation letter from the Australian Police Authority. He also showed an E-mail received from the police of St. George Detective Office in this video.[498][499]
In view of this on 23 March, he filed a lawsuit against Rahmat Ullah in theChief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on charges of defamation and extortion.[500] Khan's lawyer Tanveer Ahammed toldProthom Alo that the court recorded Khan's statement. Soon after the court took note of the allegations of the sued and issued a summons to the producer Rahmat Ullah to attend in the court on 26 April 2023.[501] Then on 27 March, he filed another sued under theDigital Security Act against producer Rahmat Ullah in the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka for defamation and extortion.[502][503] According toProthom Alo, Cyber Tribunal judge AM Zulfikar Hayat ordered to thePolice Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the lawsuit. The court ordered the PBI to submit the investigation report by 6 June 2023.[504][505]
Then on 13 April 2023, producer Rahmat Ullah also filed a defamation lawsuit against Khan in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.[506][507][508] The court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the sued and submit the report.[509][510] In this regard, Khan's lawyer Khairul Hasan said that they have come to know about the matter, a lawsuit has been filed against his client Shakib Khan. The court did not directly take cognizance of it, ordered the PBI to investigate. The matter will be dealt with legally in due course.[511][512]
On 26 April 2023, Rahmat Ullah surrendered to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court and applied for bail.[513][514][515] However, this bail was opposed by the plaintiff. After hearing both sides, the court granted Rahmat Ullah bail on a surety of৳10,000. At the same time, the court ordered the transfer of the suit to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court for trial.[516][517][518] Then on 30 April, producer Rahmat Ullah filed another suit against Khan for defamation in the first joint district judge court of Dhaka, seeking financial compensation of৳1 billion.[519][520][521][522] Rahmat Ullah's lawyer Md. Tabarak Hossain Bhuiyan toldPratham Alo that, "Film actor Shakib Khan made defamatory statements against his client producer Rahmat Ullah in various media. Through this, Rahmat Ullah has suffered irreparable financial and social losses. The value of this losses is৳1 billion. His client has filed a money suit on Sunday to recover this amount.[523]
