Seventh grade (also7th Grade orGrade 7) is the seventhyear offormal orcompulsory education. The seventh grade is typically the first or second year ofmiddle school. In the United States, kids in seventh grade are usually around 12–13 years old. It is the eighth school year sincekindergarten. Different terms and numbers are used in other parts of the world.
In the United States, inmathematics, 7th grade students begin to go more intopre-algebra or the beginnings ofalgebra includingratios,proportions, andpercentages. New topics sometimes includescientific notation, concepts withnegative numbers orintegers, and more advancedgeometry.[1] Some schools allow advanced students to take anAlgebra I course instead of following the standard 7th grade math curriculum.
Insocial studies, advanced pre-Civil WarHistory is taught. Though American history is usually the most common, other cultures and time periods may be taught, including state and capital history (in, for example, Texas and South Carolina), European history (in Connecticut and New Jersey), and Civics (in Florida).[2]
