Sashima District inIbaraki Prefecture

Sashima (猿島郡,Sashima-gun) is adistrict located inIbaraki Prefecture,Japan.

Following theBandō merger but with 2004 population data, the district has an estimatedpopulation of 125,153 and adensity of 726 persons per km2. The total area is 172.25 km2.[1]

  • On March 22, 2005, the town ofSashima merged with the neighboring city ofIwai forming the city ofBandō.
  • On September 12, 2005, the towns ofSanwa andSōwa merged into the city ofKoga.[2]
