Sarmatosuchus is anextinctgenus ofarchosauriformreptile found in sediments ofMiddle Triassic age and known from the single speciesSarmatosuchus otschevi. It is one of the earliest stem-archosaur species known. Theholotype and only specimen was found inlithified river deposits of theDonguz Formation exposed near theBerdyanka River,Orenburg region,Russia.[1] The genus was originally included in the extinct familyProterosuchidae. However, later analysis byDavid Gower and Andrei Sennikov, the describing author, has removed it from the Proterosuchidae and designated it a basalarchosauriform.[2]
